Internet of Things (IoT) based monitoring of critical masonry infrastructure

Interesting to see Aecom are one of the potential collaborators in this research by Newcastle University around using grapheme in strain sensors within construction materials. The link provides some details of application and it's easy to see why this would now be viewed as vital to monitoring the integrity of structures.

More excited about possible applications and scale every day

With regard to NR's trip to Cupertino this week; wonder if it had anything to do with this recently amended patent application in the US by Apple Inc for Graphene enhanced speakers/headphones? I have to bath my cats this arvo so don't have time to read through it all.

Graphene enhanced polymers get a mention in the Aecom Middle East Construction Handbook. The direction of travel is now clear and the potential scale of future production quantities is mind boggling:

Robotics and 3D printing - The manufacturing industry has seen significant productivity gains through automation and the advancement in robotics. In the construction industry some of the same technology is being used to assist workers lay blocks and to demolish concrete to an extremely high degree of precision. 3D printing is another example that is leaking over from the manufacturing industry. 3D printing has been used for some time to create scaled-down prototypes to validate and demonstrate design intent. Now the technology is being taken to the
next level, where we are starting to print at one-to-one scale using both traditional construction materials, such as concrete, and non-traditional
ones such as graphene-infused polymers.

Great article Taffy. Closing shot is:

Bottom line

Clearly, there’s still a long way to go for the Cheltenham-based business to silence its doubters. Nevertheless, if you believe (as I do) that the mass-market adoption of graphene is only a matter of time, then it is arguably the best horse to back. The fact that its stock still trading almost 40% below the high of 187p achieved almost three months ago suggests that now might be as good a time as any to begin building a position.

If — and it is a sizeable ‘if’ — Versarien is able to capitalise on its pole position in the commercialisation of the wonder material, then I maintain it could help some investors reach financial independence far earlier than they ever imagined.

nanene

"Our new graphene production equipment has duly arrived and will shortly be commissioned enabling us to produce sufficient amounts of Nanene to satisfy the current needs of the collaborations and anticipated orders."

With our DIT secondees in place, and access to the engineers and scientists from leading universities such as Cambridge, Manchester and Warwick, we are continuing our focus on agreeing further collaborations and progressing our existing ones. We anticipate that this will lead to larger orders for our graphene products and the emergence of commercial products enhanced through the use of Versarien's graphene.

what happened to Nanene? everybody is talking about graphene now. I suspect Nanene could be too high spec and may be the solution looking for a problem e.g. headphones

Today's announcement will have made Axia sit up and take notice: they don't have exactly the same business as Aecom as far as I can make out, but it's certainly close enough to serve as a wake-up call...

Aecom

I note the tweet clarifying something.

Aecom tests for the product are done and 👌.

This order is for production for the ISO etc.

As said they did have a website set for the product launch where you could submit your email for notification of the launch.

All gone now to keep the cat in the bag.

AECOM are massive in Dubai and we all know the size of projects in Dubai. They don't do anything by halves. The possibilities are absolutely phenomenal. Any order from AECOM Dubai is likely to be 1000s of kg of graphene polymers.
