25/10/2007 22:34 | What puzzles me is who sold them shares for 10p each and why | 59david
25/10/2007 14:46 | Directors Shareholdings: well, they're doing the right things at last - Van Dieman Mines Plc has been informed that MIKE ETHERIDGE, a non-executive director of the Company, acquired 500,000 ordinary shares of 1 pence each (the 'Ordinary Shares') at a price of 10 pence per share for a total consideration of £50,000. - Following this share purchase, Mike Etheridge holds 500,000 Ordinary Shares representing 0.32 per cent of the Company's total voting rights. "Michael Anthony Etheridge, aged 61, is based in Sydney, Australia and is an experienced non-executive director. He serves on the Boards of a number of publicly listed companies, including Lihir Gold, Consolidated Minerals and Ariana Resources, the last two of which are listed on AIM. He is an experienced geologist with internationally recognised expertise in minerals geoscience applications, mineral exploration and technical risk assessment as well as strategic and business planning. He has founded several companies, including Etheridge Henley Williams, which became the Australasian business of SRK Consulting." -------------------- - The Company has also been informed that RON GOODMAN, a non-executive director of the Company, acquired 50,000 ordinary shares of 1 pence each (the 'Ordinary Shares') at a price of 10 pence per share for a total consideration of £5,000. - Following this share purchase, Ron Goodman holds 50,000 Ordinary Shares representing 0.03 per cent of the Company's total voting rights. "Ronald Harry Goodman, aged 64, has over 35 years in the Mining and Mineral Processing Industry. He is based in Victoria and has been the Managing Director of Devlure Pty Ltd since 1987. This is a company that he set up in 1987 as the vehicle for the freelance consulting metallurgist work that he has carried out over the past 20 years." | vanbrussel
24/10/2007 14:36 | The only downside right-now is RAB. I agree with KatyLied: they could start flushing their shares after a small gain, share-price can be stagnant for months | vanbrussel
24/10/2007 11:32 | No, I'm a Johnny come lately in this stock, luckily only been in for a few months, I started looking just as the placings were causing the price to tumble. I like the fact that they operate in Tasmania, so the fiscal and political risk is low and also that the mining is low tech, which reduces the operational risk. With alluvial deposits, the risk is usually that the resource is uncertain but as the resources are JORC compliant that risk too is low but may affect the exploration tenements. I think the other risks are: a) Whether the JV can secure big retail chains as customers but with a significant proportion of world output, I think they are in a good position. b) The tin concentrate meets the 74% threshold for contained tin but CT was optimistic they could slightly exceed this and get credits. I think it looks a good play on a 2 year view with take-over possibilities thrown in for nothing. | daz
24/10/2007 09:54 | Hi Daz, Are you a long term holder? I'm somewhat of a contrarian investor, I like bombed out stocks that are back on track but where the market remains cautious. Do you see any other risks present now that the financial risk and permits are in place? Regards, Maddox | maddox
23/10/2007 16:35 | Agree about the lowered risk Maddox and about perceptions of the company, as VDM has serially disappointed in the past, it will take proof for sentiment to be turned around. Getting the mine up and running on schedule would be a big step in that direction. As most mine start-ups encounter some problem or the other, probability says VDM will be affected as well though. | daz
23/10/2007 13:16 | KatyLied, VDM are a far less risky an investment now with the finance in place than before. So the risk has reduced and the prospects of extraction look very good. It will take a while for the market to perceive this but once the share price strengthens those tentative investors will be wishing they'd got on board now rather than waited. Then we should have the positive newsflow to drive it further forward. Regards, Maddox | maddox
23/10/2007 08:44 | OK, c'mon own up... who dropped 500K this morning? | katylied
22/10/2007 10:14 | 20p would suit me fine jonwig, but we have some mixed signals here. Going by the terms, it wasn't easy for VDM to raise debt for mine development, so the idea that buyers are lining up now (but not before), seems a tad optimistic to me. If my holding was as large as RABs, I would look to take profits pretty much whereever I could... and they do have some form... | katylied
22/10/2007 09:52 | Do you think they'd do that, KL? A profit for them would be more secure if a bid were made at an opportunist level - which is my current hope. If the F-D valuation is anywhere near realistic, an offer of 20p (say) would probably be accepted. | jonwig
22/10/2007 09:46 | I guess we are already high enough now for RAB to start a drip, drip, drip, into any strength. Don't suppose there was any kind of lock-in was there?... | katylied
19/10/2007 17:49 | Well there you go... Turn my back for a second and just look at VDM go. Just goes to show, things rarely happen when to are glued to the screen... Yippppeeeeeee!!! Note, Tin-Price hit a 6 week high a few of days ago and the 3-Month price has been holding at over $16,000... Now if only they can get some production going and sell the stuff... | katylied
19/10/2007 17:06 | Daz - could be right ... CT must feel the hard work has been done (he's not a miner or geologist). RR - trades tend to get reported late with this stock, NMS being a bit on the low side. | jonwig
19/10/2007 16:57 | Daz, Something has certainly leaded though because todays volume no way justifies the rise, 0.5p maybe. However not complaining indeed very happy as I broke even today! | red river 1
19/10/2007 16:36 | After all the disappointments I wouldn't hold your breath. This rise has come out of the blue, perhaps a bid is in the offing, the directors are all the wrong side of 60, so might be tempted to sell if a decent offer came their way. After all the effort though, I think they would want to see it in production. | daz
19/10/2007 16:32 | 59david - Fox-Davies maybe a bit rose-tinted ... their estimate of running costs looks too low. (Lower than original Altium, and lower than I gathered from the AGM.) Maddox - the Fox-Davies note (on the VDM website) is pretty comprehensive, though I'd be inclined to shave a bit off their projected share prices! | jonwig
19/10/2007 15:52 | Hi guys, Just noticed this one perk-up but mining is not my area of expertise. VDM seem to have been on the starting blocks for a long time now - is this it, is it finally going to come good? I'd welcome some views. Regards, Maddox | maddox
19/10/2007 15:48 | Just bought small interest as this looks promising - providing of course that the brokers estimates are at all realistic - but have to admit have done little research. Assuming production actually happens as planned this could be a winner IMHO | 59david
19/10/2007 15:42 | Jonwig - another 4p and I will be in profit. Never thought I would see the day, but it seems possible now!! | nigthepig
19/10/2007 15:03 | I'm actually in a nice profit now at 14p, VB - don't want to be too greedy ... yet! | jonwig
19/10/2007 15:01 | I have to say I like the fact they are valuating VDM at 349.5p at a certain point in time (LOL) | vanbrussel
19/10/2007 12:54 | Spot the mistake in this: | jonwig
18/10/2007 16:48 | Good rise today on the back of that 300k buy, must of been worked on throughout the day, back at break even now!!! | red river 1
