Well....

LONDON (AFX) - Apax, the private equity group, is planning a bid for PR
Newswire, the press release distribution business owned by United Business Media
PLC, the Sunday Times reported.
Without citing sources, the newspaper said Apax is thought to have spent
recent weeks plotting an approach for the business, which could be worth 500 mln
stg.
It noted that UBM has consistently said there are no synergies between PRN
and the publishing and exhibition businesses that make up the rest of the group.
UBM's shares closed Friday at 697 pence, valuing the business at 1.85 bln
stg.

Got into these today, media sector undervalued and this outfit earning well. IMHO either its value will be recognised and its price rise accordingly over time, or it will be subject to a bid with the same, but more immediate effect. Nice one for granny's ISA, but DYOR etc.

Sorry to have missed it! Should have stuck with it but backed out at about 565, from memory, - and dumped it all into VOG in the low 40's...the rest is history.

Well spotted horneblower! Send us a few other tips like this!

This is what I expected to happen in October. Should reach 600p plus.

NP - plenty of strength today. Lots of little gems in here.

Coincidence you should say that, I added at 555 thinking it would bounce! Damn. The attachment to the Dow is an issue although, as with markets, an emotional one.

I will hold (because I do not feel over-exposed).

Many thanks for your comments.

Nil Pd,

Hi,

Very frustrating, this stock. The chart has drifted out of its channel seemingly through attachment to the Dow.

I expected it to go up from 555p but the last two days it's come off hard with the Dow.

Unless it comes back quickly I'm going to cut it. I'll give it a couple more days when, hopefully, hurricane Rita will fizzle out, the oilprice will slump and the Dow will rise again. If Rita causes devastation the Dow will probably be hit again with consequenses for UBM.

Regards.

horneblower, what's your current view on the direction of UBM sp? Thanks in advance. I'm struggling to find any negatives.

Welcome broadwood. Thanks, wasn't aware of the merrill's buy-note. Nice strong upward move today, which should have further momentum tomorrow.

Strength probably has more to do with Merryll's Buy note a couple of weeks ago= which is when I decided to have some.

Hi HB, I'm back. While away I noticed the share price between 540 and 550. Looks to me as if there is a firm uptrend in place. What's your view? BTW you may need to update your user sentiment rating, there is only one showing?! ;-)

Following gut instinct and studying the chart pattern led me to the same conclusion about where it is immediately headed! I thought we might even get there yesterday! Thanks again for bringing UBM to my attention.

I am off for overseas vacation today, I might log on occasionally but will rarely have the opportunity until September. Of course, I shall keep in close touch with the market by the usual means. I am inclined to your view of a target well above 580 -ish, so expect to hold past there. Do you still have around 700 in mind?

Thanks and best regards.

Loking good now. I'm expecting it to go to its top channel line at 585/590. It will be interesting to see what it does then, assuming it gets there. The top channel line would normally provide strong resistance but I have a feeling it will break out upwards.
Regards.

Looks a bit stronger now. I'm looking for it to accelerate upwards...but if it closes below 535p I shall have to admit defeat. I'm still optimistic, however.

Thanks HB. I must admit that I was a bit too optimistic - I thought it had consolidated at just under 560 so took the plunge and bought again ex-dividend. It now looks good (although like you I am running a small loss) and I too am comfortable.

Monday should be positive!

I'm comfortable.

It corrected to a sensible point imo. Sorry if you got in just before the correction but these things happen. I am running a small loss now but expect it to rise tomorrow.

..but I'm beginning to wonder about this. What I see at the moment is a small correction which will turn up again very soon. Do you agree and does your analysis still hold true?

Thanks.

Nil Pd,

Hi, No, I don't think there should be another retrace until after it escapes 580p.

The stock has been in the same channel for the better part of two years and I feel that the recent bounces off the bottom line indicate that it should have sufficient escape velocity this time. Also, the top channel line is now above the old high of 577.5p This situation is pregnant with breakout possibilities. It's a special chart situation which has a high confidence factor.

I am long at 553.5p and will have to make a decision at 580p but my inclination is to hold for a good breakout and a target of around £7.
