30/4/2018 12:30 | As expected, Simon Thompson has updated on UAI in his IC column today, retaining his BUY recommendation... ... On this basis, U+I's shares are trading on a 30 per cent discount to NAV and offer a prospective dividend yield of 6.4 per cent, an anomalous valuation in my view given that the company is set to pay out dividends (including those just declared) representing a fifth of its market capitalisation over the next two years, and is also growing its NAV. Buy. | speedsgh
30/4/2018 09:45 | The number of buys vs sells will always equal each other. There has to be a seller for each buyer. It is the strike price at which they agree the trade which is the important part, and which determines the direction of the share price | eeza
30/4/2018 09:27 | Either way, there are more buys than sells so far this morning. Some people sell for short term gain and are not interested in dividends. | bluerunner
30/4/2018 09:23 | ADVFN's buys & sells are meaningless in a SETS stock where investors using DMA can buy at the Bid and sell at the Offer. The direction of the share price always tells whether the emphasis is to the buy or sell side. | eeza

29/4/2018 09:43 | That last post should read 'greater coverage in the media'. | bluerunner
29/4/2018 09:01 | UAI should gain greater media coverage in the media this week. I would be amazed if it is not covered in ST's update tomorrow, given that it is in his Bargain Portfolio for 2018.Shares mag should also be updating as they also covered it.Perhaps this will be the catalyst for some upward momentum in the share price. | bluerunner

27/4/2018 11:11 | From yday's results: "Over the past three years, we have put the foundations in place to deliver against a set of demanding financial targets - aiming for consistent, annual total returns of 12.0% post tax. Over the three-year period to the end of FY21, we aim to achieve this through targeting £125-150 million of development and trading gains from existing projects, £15.0 million of added value from investment activity and enhanced operational efficiency." Details of current targets for development & trading gains over the next 3 years can be found on pg14 of the results presentation and are summarised below. 26/4/2018 15:47 | all i know is that i used to receive tax credits for dividends and gordon brown stopped it | spob
26/4/2018 15:26 | @spob - "dividends are taxed so shareholders do not reap the full benefit of those funds" not in all cases e.g. dividend distributions paid by UK resident companies and received by other UK resident companies are generally not subject to corporation tax i.e. they are tax free. | speedsgh
26/4/2018 15:12 | In theory I always like to see buy backs since over time they increase value (and the wife can't spend the dividend) In practice the majority of boards are completely clueless regarding buybacks and frequently only buy back shares at the top of the market rather than when the share price is low. A 9% buyback programme at the current share price instead of a dividend would be much better value than any of us reinvesting our dividend with accompanying income tax etc. costs. | this_is_me
26/4/2018 14:27 | there is no buyback illusion if the shares 'genuinely' trade at a massive discount imho as is the case here dividends are taxed so shareholders do not reap the full benefit of those funds | spob
26/4/2018 14:15 | I've bought today partly because of the special dividend as I much prefer specials to buybacks. Plus and minus points of buybacks have been debated to death, so will just point out that many Investment Trusts use buybacks to try to control the discount but often with little success. The discount often narrows a bit while they are buying back and then widens again when they stop. With special dividends included, the UAI dividend income is around 9%. That's real cash and well worth having. Also I would rather the likes of UAI and Investment Trusts used the money they spend on buybacks on investments. If they invest it wisely the benefits can be far greater than the often illusory buyback benefits. There is no right or wrong on this issue but a balance of opinion and weighing up the plus and minus points. And my choice is always special dividends and/or increased ordinary dividends ahead of buybacks. | kenmitch
26/4/2018 14:12 | The shares closed yesterday at 207.5p bid 210p ask so they have moved up a grand total of 3p, a 1.5% rise on these superb results. It makes you wonder what would have happened if the results were bad. | hedge fund harry |
