Tomkins tends to fall on good FTSE days, so an interesting rise today. Worth watching perhaps.

I have always had confidence in this company, steady income for me and now looking likely to continue, not going to make large cap return but this one will keep my MR2 on the road for another year.

Trading statement this morning is good in light of the amount of hedging that most CEO's are doing after the 11th September.

I'll comment on Billy's bits at some point. I'm just about to go into a lengthy meeting but I have noticed that Sprucegrove Investment Management Limited is stake building now as well. Anybody know anything about them?

They sold Smith and Wesson at a massive loss.
They now have no gun manufacturing.

Are these guys still making Guns in America?

Reports after recent troubles suggest Gun sales MASSIVELY increased in
USA after recent troubles.

Any thoughts?

PW will know the answer to that...?

....can a company borrow money to buy back its own shares..?
With interest rates fairly low this may be an interesting option.
I still rate TOMK as a good bet on account of the good income even if the div is cut. Historically I have recieved nearly as much in divs on these as I paid for the shares so even at the lowley 135 at present (not much below what I paid for most of mine I consider that these have served me well.
Interesing to get PWs latest views..

billy, any idea how much they have left for buybacks. They must be coming to

Scrip, I sold out a month or so ago but I am looking to get back in. I think they will fall back to 135. Have you any idea how much they have got left for
buy backs? I can't see them coming out with a profit warning so soon after reporting.

Yes, doing nicely! I've held these since 1995 (yes really) and if they carry on like this, I'll soon be showing a profit again! Yippee!

BTW, Scrip, congratulations on your new additions.

I agree. Lengthy thread on the PBB dating back ages on this but appears to have started another move up.

Who else but Tomkins.

I have been in since the mid 170s. They are finally trending upwards and the dividend is wonderful. Further research appreciated but I am staying in as I think this is just the start.

By my calculation since 24 July last year they have bought back
168,246,270 shares at a cost of £337,204,904.
(That works out at an average cost to date of £2.00 per share)
