You are indeed correct JJ, trouble is you have a frost just after cutting, would not matter how long or short it will have the same effect...I would just leave it. Strange thing today I aerated our lawn to try and get the water to get through what is obviously a pan. all the top soil from building the house we spread about 6" deep over the whole area and tracked it down with the 360, bad decision. Particularly bad near the new arrivals lounge. (The Man Cave)
