Johnwise - yep did see that about some items so say price matched are not quite like for like. One has to remember that the cost of the Tesco Club card is huge and is not pocket money and has to be paid for out of higher prices. And only a very few items in Tescos and Sainsbury are actually so say price matched.

Bulls Bridge, Southall / Hayes, Tescos - customers are getting very frustrated customers about the long waits at the tills that are actually open, which may only be just 2 tills. When you get 2 or 3 Mrs Mops with a full big trolley the queue behind her waiting can be quite long. You cant blame the till staff and after speaking to the manager there he doesn't appear to care a toss.
Things have not improved over the last 12 months.
The situation at the Yeading Tesco branch is far better.

Consumers ‘could pay up to a fifth more for convenience store groceries’

More than half of consumers shop at convenience stores at least once a week, a survey for Which? found.

More than half of consumers shop at convenience stores at least once a week, a survey for Which? found.

Consumers who buy their food at convenience stores could be paying up to a fifth more than at larger branches of the same supermarket, according to a study.

Which? compared the cost of 42 popular grocery items at convenience chains Morrisons Daily, Sainsbury’s Local and Tesco Express against prices at their full-sized supermarkets on three occasions in June and July, also checking loyalty scheme discounts.

Citi lifts Tesco forecasts as market share continues to rise

Citi has lifted its target price for Tesco shares ahead of the supermarket giant's interim results next month, saying that the retailer's continued market share gains should be reflected in the figures.

The bank has raised its targe to 425p from 350p and reiterated a 'buy' recommendation on the stock.

This month's Kantar market share data showed that Tesco's dominance of the UK grocer market continued to grow, with a 27.8% market share in the 12 weeks to 1 September, up 5.3% on the same period last year and the highest share since January 2022.

Citi predicts that total retail like-for-like (LFL) sales have grown 3.8% in Tesco's second quarter, up from 3.4% in the first, driven by improvements in the UK, Central Europe and the Booker division, offset by a slight slowdown in the Republic of Ireland (ROI).

The second-quarter acceleration is "supported by low-single-digit UK food inflation, and four straight quarters of UK market share gains", Citi said.

As a result, the bank's forecast for full-year earnings before interest and tax has risen by 1% to £2.867bn, compared with Tesco's own guidance of at least £2.8bn.

Heinz volumes tumble as shoppers seek cheaper alternatives

Volumes at Heinz have nosedived further as higher prices put off cash-strapped shoppers, but the ketchup and baked beans giant expects to see a turnaround in 2024 as inflation continues to ease.

Newly filed UK accounts this week revealed a 12% fall in volumes in 2023, on top of a 5% drop in the previous year.
