Logic seems to be this:

Prediction of magic things by Xmas. If so, people will have had the amazing opportunity to buy 'cheaply' in the lead up to that. Presumably if the magic things come to pass they will then be very happy. Nevertheless, some citrus fruit sellers from another continent are going to get very cross and seek revenge. For what? Having the opportunity to make loads of dosh in that scenario?
