they've invested 2% of the capital in a financial services co likely to benefit from the pension changes in a few years' time; any guesses which? could it be Brooks MacDonald at a wild guess?

discounts are invariably an opportunity to add not sell. the manager looks after the nav - he is doing a good job of that . it is our collective wisdom as the market as to whether we bid up or sell the stock. i suspect a few sellers are tax motiviated. either way, discounts have widened out in lots of investment trusts but a good shake down like this will attract more price aware investors. a wide discount therefore is an opportunity not a 'worry'.

Thanks for that Coul. Over 5 years NAV growth of 197 and share price up by 261. Discount has gradually eroded so was just interested in the recent increase. Not sure I agree with "unspectacular" as it's number 5 in the rankings I reckon! Cheers

My take on this recent fall is that SEC has previously always been an unspectacular, but steady, Investment Company trading at a small discount to NAV. The unusually large rise from August 2014 to mid January 2015 took it to trading above NAV (20th JAN the NAV was 191 and the share price 201) and the fall back to the 180 area is a re-adjustment to bring it back in line. That said, a fall below 170 on a NAV of 200, would begin to worry me. DYOR.

Edward - you were right, watchlists are no good when it performs so well, you have to be in it to win it. I missed out. Good call.

in a sweet spot at the moment. a rare beast in actually being a small cap trust, unlike most of its competition.

discount has come in but buyers remain. E2V announced today inline results but new CEO has outlined a credible plan to double earnings by 2020, a cagr of 15%. this is one of SEC's biggest holdings and is currently on modest valuations.
