Pity that StiloLosses' expiry of "blue" status,on his annual subscription ending, means that he is no longer able to post here.Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Cheers stu31.

What our resident loser does not seem to appreciate is that the writing off of the AuthorBridge development costs was an accounting ploy; designed to improve future profitability as amortisation of those costs will not now be applicable.

AuthorBridge itself is very much alive and kicking.

Les Burnham often opined that the adoption of DITA was growing exponentially.

In fact that growth remained sluggish and therefore had minimal impact on STL's figures.

Growth in DITA is at last gaining wider global appeal.

Here, KEITH SCHENGILI-ROBERTS, SENIOR DITA CONTENT STRATEGIST, MARKET RESEARCHER AT IXIASOFT and CHAIR OF OASIS DITA ADOPTION COMMITTEE,provides his thoughts on that growth.

(Stilo do receive a mention)

Last Wednesday STILO's partner Componize, under the heading:- Authoring, Your Way,stated that,

"Componize allows you to edit DITA XML with built-in connectors for some of the most widely-used editors and engines.

Standalone editors: oXygen (with our connector) or any other XML editor (via WebDAV)
Browser-based, easy-to-use XML editing tool for SMEs: AuthorBridge, FontoXML and oXygen Web Author."

Note the "most widely used" tag for AuthorBridge !

Remarkable achievement with Stilo updating their news page concerning the seminar.

I think that is it for the current year! This in itself is an amazing achievement in itself.

They have again managed to update their news page for an amazing second time this year. The last being Covid-19 news in April. The time before that was back in November 2019!

Course, the last time they ever really spoke about any real news was as recently as 2015 about a contract that they won which subsequently expired.

Let's see how many times they update their news page in 2021! That is, of course, unless they lock up shop by then.

Now for the last bit that you mentioned, now that I have digested my dinner!

"I understand that there is a deepening working relationship with several of Stilo's partners."

Now, during the last 30 years or so have there never been that kind of set up between Stilo and it's very small, minute amount of customers where the relationship was anything but involving a "deep working relationship?"

If an example was ever needed, Stilo said many times over many years that their "disruptive technology in Author Bridge" involved a "deep working relationship" with a few customers which all came to a "disruptive end" when they eventually found out after 10 years or so that customers preferred to use free open-ended tools for their conversions.

I mean, what kind of technology are we now talking about when you pluck things out of the air and talk about the so called "deep working relationship with several partners?

Stilo has been involved with partners, world leading ones for that, since inception 30 years ago and the only work they would now be doing with any potential customer or partner would involve the very old, out of date Omnimark product with some Migrate. Between Omnimark and Migrate you have two products going back 30 years and 15 years respectively which combined raise around a £1 million.

Just so that nobody is confused, Stilo will be working, as per usual with their partners merely to raise a few quid in order to prevent yearly revenues falling substantially below the 30 year paltry £1 million mark.

There are no new products Stilo have to offer, the one in Author Bridge has now been written off , the one that they were hoping to raise some revenue from before realising an alternative was available for free on the open market.

All in all, no new products, same old customers and partners being offered old products with nothing new on the market, with Stilo desperately trying to raise a few pounds rather than just sit back and lose everything.

"Deep working relationship, my foot!"

"Good grief!"

Just to keep the tiny bit of revenue coming in Stilo has to do some kind of webinar and the tragedy is that they use to do about 5 or 6 of these a year but with people using free tools for their conversions, Stilo's revenues continuing to fall through the floor, customers leaving in droves, company delisting, even Author Bridge being binned after 10 years building it at £1 million, unable to build on £1 million revenues after 30 plus years, cost cutting all over, binning the paltry dividend, course the dream is over.

It is just a matter of time before they have to close up shop. Guaranteed! 6 months, a year or two at the most!

They have no new products, put all their eggs in one basket with Author Bridge, which then fell to the floor.... Oops, they should never had spent 10 years building it at a cost of £1 million plus, only to then find out that nobody wanted it and then to write it off.

Lol! What a Laurel and Hardy sketch.

It took them 10 years and over £1 million to find out customers preferred the free tools available on the open-ended market.

Covid has cost them; customers leaving has cost them; only holding one or two webinars a year as nobody attends them has cost them; having no new products have cost them; building products over 10 years at £1 million then finding out nobody wanted them and writing them off cost them; having nothing else to fall back on cost them; paying listing costs for 30 years then remembering that they didn't really need to be listed cost them; revenues falling through the floor and continuing to dive through the floor will definitely be the one that will cost them totally!

Just a matter of time now!

Shocking really that an insignificant, normal, mundane, ordinary webinar that will be attended by about 10 to 15 people is something that you try to pass off as being somewhat significant. Mostly all of them attending will be attending just for research purposes as they will do the conversion themselves with free open-ended tools.

Similar to the free tools that customers used whilst Stilo were busy building a £1 million product over 10 years in Author Bridge which was then written off by Stilo. Shame that management didn't see that one coming. Well, at least it only too them 10 years to find out. After all, they could have raised and spent another £1 million and another 10 years before finding out about the free open-ended tools available on the market.

Dream on so he says!

Dream on!

Why not!

A date for your diary..Oct 21st..

"Stilo and CIDM ComTech have partnered to bring you this webinar. Thinking of automating your entire conversion process to DITA? Wanting to handle conversion work manually, in-house?

Before you proceed, think about how the conversion could help you derive the benefits of DITA that you expect. A simplistic approach may allow you to publish something that looks just like what you have now. But a really good quality conversion will help you to leverage content reuse, personalization and multi-channel publishing, as well as making it easier to maintain and update your content. For example, will your conversion generate keys and keyrefs for variables? How about a relationship table, to prevent broken links? Will menu cascades be correctly marked up, for localization purposes?"

I understand that there is a deepening working relationship with several of Stilo's partners.
"Soon be over"....Dream on !

How long before they announce that it's over. Not long..... surely!

What is Ashman and his sons cooking in the kitchen in terms of wiping out existing shareholders...... intriguing to say the least.

For now, just like the last 3 decades, you can more or less guarantee that no news will come from the company in terms of contracts. The last bit of contract news was back in 2015 and even that has now come and gone.

Soon be over in my books...guaranteed!

If you do some digging you will find that IBM and Stilo jointly did a presentation at one of these events showing off Author Bridge.....you couldn't make it up!

Only difference is that the very product that they spoke about has now been binned!

Stilo have been attending these tremendous, amazing and world leading events for 30 years plus.

These events are Stilo's bread and butter. That's why they have been stuck in a rot for 30 years plus with only £1 million revenues and nothing else to show for their troubles.

These are the very events where Stilo were exhibiting their world leading new Author Bridge product which they said was disruptive technology or something like that.

10 years of developing Author Bridge and spending £1 million then exhibiting it at events like this they then realised nobody wanted it and decided to bin it.

In the process, having only 2 or 3 customers for Author Bridge they have now lost 2 of them as per their 6 month report.

I wonder what Stilo are going to be able to exhibit at the event.

"Nothing!"

Such a shame!

Just a matter of time before they lock up shop.
