Ukraine is supplied with cement from Kazakhstan so ludicrous is a weird choice of word. |
Economically cement and clinker cannot travel for more than 1,000km STCM no longer sells into Almaty talk of Ukraine is ludicrous. |
The link doesn't work, but I'm not disputing that some cement from Kazakhstan may find its way to Ukraine - at the closest point western Kaz is only about 300 km from eastern Ukraine, as the crow flies. But Steppe's plant is thousands of km further east. The Chinese border is roughly the same distance. |
Within this period, in Jan 2024 alone, 34 Cement export shipments were made from Kazakhstan . This marks a year-on-year growth of -28% compared to Jan 2023, and a 34% sequential growth from Dec 2024.
Most of the Cement exports from Kazakhstan go to the Uzbekistan , Ukraine , and Tajikistan . |
Of course there will be an effect on cement supplies in regions bordering Ukraine, but that effect will diminish with distance. Is your argument that cement prices throughout Eurasia will increase with Ukrainian reconstruction? Then why not buy some Chinese cement producers? Or Spanish? If Ukraine is an argument for buying construction supply stocks, you should be looking at Poland, Slovakia, Hungary. There is already significant reconstruction in the eastern parts of Ukraine occupied by Russia, where most of the destruction is. Has that affected the market in eastern or central Kazakhstan? Steppe Cement's future depends almost entirely on domestic Kazakhstan demand. |
I am a fan of share buy back but at least a capital return demonstrates the company is still on solid ground |
The Board do respond to PI emails. |
Very welcome news this morning.Seems they are hoping to pay before the new year.Solid boring and well run company. One benefit of the capital reduction over dividend is the lack of tax to pay.Major shareholders here are no fools and increased their holdings this year.GLA |
And Gaza. And Lebanon. And Syria. And maybe Iran.Lots of cement will be needed in the next decade. |
do the maths please zangdook. How big is Ukraine? How much cement will it require to rebuild? Where will it come from? If you suck all the cement out of the regions closest to Ukraine, who then supplies those regions? Come on mate, get with the program please |
A shortage of cement in the region - what region do you mean?
By road it's over 3,000 km from Steppe's plant to the easternmost point of Ukraine. |
I agree Matt.. Ukraine will rebuild, hopefully next year if Trump manages to sort peace out in the region. The rebuild will likely cause a shortage of cement in the region for the years that follow... I'm sure cement companies realise this and at this share price stcm could easily be a target to take advantage. |
ex- and payment dates not declared yet, lc |
As ever, it's all about Growth. Unlike many other stocks that have been beaten down due to Ukriane and recently een strong upward price moves off the back of the Trump win, tjhis has not happened in any way with Steppe. Rebuilding the geographical area that was previously called Ukraine (no matter which side of the new border the land may be) is going to be a massive multi-year undertaking. The region has been subject to intense and prolonged destructive forces that have razed to the ground entire towns and cities. The rebuilding project is going to suck in cement from everywhere in the region that can deliver it to the Ukraine and that resulting Demand will cause a ripple/domino pricing effect to spread out. I dont see how it wont impact pricing & volumes in Steppe's region.
We should now be at / very near the cycle lows in terms of STCM mkt cap rgiht now & there is a decent margin of safety given the underlying asset value of the business. |
Hi does anyone know what ex dividend date is or has it already gone thanks in advance |
that is 10 % yield with strong possibility of capital appreciation. Would take it any day. |
Well, a 1.5p payment is welcome news to me. I think a "clear the air" RNS about future payments would be a good idea. Obviously, there is plenty of room for more capital repayments going forwards. Are we to expect them, rather than dividends, for the foreseeable future? Also, can the company offer any guidance as to when they might come, and any policy as regards the size of each pay out? Right now, investors are in the dark. And most won't like that. |
a paltry 1.5p per ADR very low end, the company needs demand to balloon |
IF one were to assume the war in Ukraine comes to an end soon after Trump is in place then not hard to see how cement demand in that part of the world is going to dramatically increase and suck in raw material from far & wide. Regional prices should respond accordingly.Cement plants with fleets of their own hopper wagons should be in poll position to profitably project their product over great distances to meet that demand. |
Given the year they've just had, that is a terrific result for shareholders |
If only as I buying in at this price! :-( |
Another 1.5p capital repayment coming next month. (For UK tax, acts as a reduction in your purchase price, so increasing eventual capital gain. It is not taxed as income.) |
