I used to play football in the street and scrump apples when I was a kid (and I bet Ronnie did as well). For the record, I would like to say publicly that I have no intention of reverting to these childhood habits.

Looks like things may be picking up at last on the share price front. Could be a reverse head and shoulders forming on the chart.

Interesting that Ronny age 58 should be interested in stamps. Not sure if it's the case with dear old Ronny but apparently the baby boomers with the money want to get back to their childhood hobbies. On the subject, I read an positive article today in Portfolio International about the Stanley Gibbons fund. The article says
that a large % of investors are in the 50-60 year old bracket and that this bracket is the only growth consumer market due to their high disposable income.Thye quote UK government figures saying that in the UK alone there will be 6 million more over 50's( myself included) by 2012. The article goes on to point out the positives that are :the low corrrelation of stamps with other assets ,the strong investment performance of these assets over the decades, SGI's leading brand name , the availability of the SGI stamp fund for the first time ,growing interest from investors in emerging markets, so overall very positive fundamentals.

Maybe Charles Kennedy could join him :-)

All gone quiet again after those 2 large trades - perhaps someone either just wanted a good top-up or is biding thir time for further buys.

See what you mean, Gents. 500 000 turnover against 20 000 on a good day.
And that in only 2 transactions.

Mr Big is stalking and hiding behind T trades.

Yes Gregory..........2nd biggest days trading in the last 6 months. Volume of that size could establish a trend in the share price

Seems a very large buy level today (over 500K) with 250K going throgh after the final bell, so perhaps some interest taking shape?

Nice end to the year, but not sure about that extension to the fund.
Popped in to "The Strand" over xmas , shop full and was interested to hear that there is lot of interest in the coin and autographs depts.
pauly p your interest is noted, no doubt some of the pub maybe interested.
Now we need 10% div hike and we'll be motoring again.

Happy new year to all

I dont think there's anything in the share price for the stamp fund so its a bonus on top if it goes well IMHO.

Nice to see you on board Paul. A minute after your trade there was a 50k buy too. Nice.

Personally, I can't see how you can lose your shirt trying to set up a stamp fund so everything is just added value for me on that front. Confirmation of current trading should, at least, underpin the price at current levels. Chart looks like its showing a double bottom to me.............again bullish. Happy New Year to everybody on this thread.

Quite surprised by the price jump after that statement, doesn't "the subscription period for the first tranche has been extended" mean they couldn't get the funds they wanted?

Hi,

Not looked at this one before, but reckon it's a bargain after today's positive trading statement. Just picked up 30k at 92p (trade not printed yet).

Positives seem to be;

- fantastic brand name
- rapid growth from internet
- strong balance sheet
- 7.1p EPS just confirmed (indirectly) for 2005, so PER only 12.8 which looks good value to me for a growth company

This looks like the sort of business that can only gain from the internet, and am pleased to see they have a transactional website. Although it looks a bit "mickey mouse" to me.

Cheers, Paul.

Trading Statement out today:

"Stanley Gibbons Group Limited
30 December 2005

The Stanley Gibbons Group Limited

Trading Statement

The Stanley Gibbons Group Limited ('the Company') today provides an update on
trading ahead of its close period for the year ending 31 December 2005.

The Directors are pleased to report that they expect the Company's results to be
on target to achieve current market expectations for the year ending 31 December
2005, subject to audit, and the announcement of the results is expected to be
made on Friday, 3 March 2006.

The Stanley Gibbons Rare Stamp Investment Fund

The Directors of the Stanley Gibbons Rare Stamp Investment Fund ('Fund')
announce that the subscription period for the first tranche has been extended
until Friday, 24 February 2006.

The Directors of the Fund determined that it was in the best interests of the
Fund to extend the closing date, in order to give potential investors additional
opportunity outside the Christmas/New Year holiday period to consider an
investment in the Fund.

The continuing strength in demand for rare stamps bodes well for the success of
the Fund."
