Maybe they could invest some capital into their recent China venture (if that is producing income?) which only got approved earlier this year..

Not sure. I just hope it doesn't go towards another useless buyback program. spud

can't justify a spec. divi. having failed to pay a decent whack at the last final payment.

My spies at SLA House in Lothian Road are in despair as their substantial equity holdings in their employer tank in value, as the new management sell off the remaining income-generating assets. SLA now has few assets of its own left, the new company manages other people's assets. After the recent savage cut in the dividend and as AUM steadily decrease, there really is little reason to hold this company. Before the merger SLA was trading at over a fiver a share, LTH (CI) should be aware of the substantial risk that this company will shortly trade as a penny share.

Depends.

Depends on what business the company involves itself in my view.

SLA is an investment company and you'd think therefore that it could find a multitude of 'good homes' to invest the £650+m it has obtained from this sale.

Vodaphone could use their spare cash to expand into lucrative, developing markets probably abroad.

Frasers is tapping-in to the recent explosion of sales of it's sportswear products but could easily have used the funds to buy ailing competitors - Selfridges maybe?

It's an easy management decision to buy back it's own shares and in my view, one that cannot be challenged with complete accuracy nor claim to have been a roaring success. Muddy waters - management laxity spring to mind.

The £652m is to be used for 'general corporate purposes'.

That means either:
a) they'll pay big bonuses to more directors
b) they'll buy more of their own shares

There's no way they'll use that money to enhance the business to the benefit of the common shareholder.

This share as been in price range of 264 to 276 for the last 6weeks can’t see anything happening up till September or October unless we get good half year results in August does anybody think the new CEO will turn this company around as he has been in the job for 1year I think
