Sold 1/3rd holding at 325p and have bought some back on the way down with lowest at 2.90p. It'll probably top out at about 350p this year imo. spud

Although i can't quite fathom what you're trying to say with your first sentence mcun, i assume it's a dig so i'll say it in a different way for you, this time without those pesky confusing percentage things.

My estimation of the number of people in the uk who are willing and able to invest to keep all the profits for themselves and avoid massive charges is approximately 676,000. Ish.

Plenty of the remaining 99% could successfully invest for themselves achieving better returns than professionals should they be interested (most aren't) and also put in the time and effort, and i accept that many don't wish to, each to their own.

I simply feel there are much better fund managers out there if you need someone to manage your money. The glory days of SLA are long gone..the smart money has gone to more dynamic houses eg Baillie Gifford.

Agreed there. Anyone who gives their money to anyone to invest on their behalf must be clueless.Fortunately for SLA, 99% of the population are clueless when it comes to investing.

Back in 2008 Warren Buffet issued a challenge. He claimed a tracker fund (that he picked) would beat a hedge fund (or selection of several such).

He won.

Trackers are low cost and generally perform well over a long period. I believe there's a lot of cash looking for a safe and rewarding home. A lot of people with that cash have little knowledge of the market and will choose a safe tracker over an actively managed fund.

SLA have a problem there.

If only it was that easy. SLA are fighting a brutal battle against passive investing.

Not sure rebrading will cut it. Outperformance of benchmarks absolutely key, easier said than done.

Increasing swathes of investment cash being scooped up by by ETF's.

I do also agree with the rebranding. Basically, there is no clear brand identity. Standard Life, Aberdeen Standard Life, Aberdeen Standard Investments etc. Totally and utterly stupid. Investment performance is OK and should improve as and when the techno bubble finally deflates. An interesting recovery story, if it works.

It's certainly interesting here. The dividend cut was bad news, but not entirely unexpected. What has caught my attention is that their minority investments are worth approximately half the market cap. So very rough numbers, £3bn market cap for the rest gets you over £500bn AUM. That's a very cheap valuation of c0.5% of AUM. Thoughts?

fenners, I've made the same point many times. They are SUPPOSED to be an investment company.

I'm unsure what their function is. Phoenix handle my pension but under the Standard Life Assurance brand name. What exactly does SLA do?

Apart from rotation which is just the game , where is the incentive for these to go higher?
Having made 20% whilst anticipating that there was going to be a stable if not improving dividend due to the buyback last week was one of the few times a decisive decision on getting out and chasing yield elsewhere was easy and I am so glad I did.

I have had a smaller holding for years , but spending all the cash buying back shares and then cutting the dividend was an incompetence too far for me.

They had clearly run out of ideas of what to invest in .... they are an Investment co. for goodness sake !

I'm sure there is a lot of supporting data if anyone cares to look. I'm not writing a financial academic paper subject to peer review, I'm just stating what I think. You're very welcome to think differently if you want.

pierre, any supporting data for your last remark? with stimulus cash in the US looking for a home, let alone savings unspent during lock down and many govt's with big splending plans going in to 21-22, i personally do not see too many poor results this year. but time will tell of course...
