26/4/2021 09:30 | Perhaps they can sell the three 'e's to a telecoms company to make their handful. I see they still felt the need to capitalise the A in Abrdn - no that radical are they? | mcunliffe1
26/4/2021 08:57 | I agree it's ridiculous and a complete waste of money. The Company has obviously run out of ideas when it's forced to spend millions on rebranding.spud | spud

15/4/2021 09:41 | I read that spotty is very cross with SLA..not a great surprise really. As for the pudgy one..he is almost forgotten..someone who achieved very little. All so predictable. | meijiman
15/4/2021 08:45 | The home market should have a place in a well diversified portfolio of assets, as well as US, European and global stocks. The only area of the market I’m underweight in is bonds - I do not yet see any value there. QE has goosed the bond markets and it continues to do so. I bought farmland in the UK as a proxy for bonds, and this has performed really well for me over the last decade. On a value basis, UK stocks look OK for me at the moment, as part of a balanced portfolio that includes exposure to other global markets too. Salty. | saltaire111

13/4/2021 19:52 | Porsch, i see you're a very successful retrospective investor! We all are. Tens of thousands think divis are pointless, and 'do what i do, sell a few of the capital gains for income'. Most of those tens of thousands pretty soon see the weakness of their strategy. Divis are very low in the first few years, but after a longer period, they can be very large, and give a very large and relatively afe income on which you can retire. Best if you understand exponential growth (that doesn't mean quick growth btw, exponential can initially be very slow). You effectively get a double dose of exponential grwoth with companies which have over the long term increased divis, such that each year after many years, you can get back your original investment. If you buy gilts, you can buy an income guaranteed for several decades - hence once you have one, and the income is enough to live on, you can tell your job to bog off and live the life of reilly (after all these years i've only just thought of that one!). You need capital gains to build up enough so you can turn a big lump of cash into an income. If you just see cap gains as an end in itself, you haven't seen the light yet. In fact, when you see traders in small caps buying and selling for cap gains, liquidity means they are dealing with very small amounts, and are massively away from living on the cap gains anytime soon. Divis are the ultimate, cap gains are a necessary temporary step on the way to fully grown up investing. | pierre oreilly
13/4/2021 14:25 | If that opinion was actually mainstream it would be time to buy UK stocks As it is they are already starting to attract attention as undervalued. We all know markets are cyclical and you are advocating buying US stocks at the top of their cycle.... | fenners66

01/4/2021 16:53 | There's been a big buyer operating for the past 12+ months buying SLA shares. It was SLA themselves. Didn't appear to me to be too helpful in raising the share price Rather, the share price reverted over time to the price it had been prior to March 2020 when everything dropped like a stone anyway. I don't understand what you mean portside about the '750 buyer' - am I missing something? Who is it/them? | mcunliffe1
01/4/2021 16:07 | The 750 buyer still buying it's good for 300 next week | portside1 |
