Faraway,
The Chancellor might have increased Fees associated with Pensions, Savings etc but he didn't.

EI, I wasn't far off doing that since sl. had risen to well over my holding level. Just lucky I didn't (and bad luck you did) - nothing more to it than that. Easy to sell on the rise yesterday which no one predicted. That took me below my preferred level, so i'll probably buy half back after typing this. If it falls further, i'll probably stick it all back in and go overweight again. It's very rare i buy or sell anything apart from rebalancing, preferring the divis. Although isas are tax free in some respects, they're not tax free when it comes to stamp duty, which takes a chunk of profit when effectively and inadvertently trading 6% moves.

No idea what to make of the merger. I don';t think anyone does really, neither analysts or directors, probably like brexit, no one really will know what the future will look like.

Thank you EssentialInvestor.
I think SL. will be quiet for the next few months but I've bought because of the Dividend.

You read it very well, meant to post earlier. Sold my few at 3.70 last
week thinking I had done nicely.

The money that sl saves by not having to pay a premium for adn shares will go to Gilbert and other senior adn chaps/chapets who will be encouraged to seek other new objectives. This is an excellent deal for Sl but the reverse for Adn shareholders.

Standard Life/Aberdeen: honourable surrender -

...Be under no illusion. Despite the bluster about the creation of a “world class” investment company (pro forma assets under management £660bn), this defensive deal is about stripping out costs as much as the likely scale achieved...

Yeah I don't know why they are keeping the two, and two chair etc I guess that is just an interim measure.

I don't think either of these are going to be that affected by brexit - neither have particularly large European operations. It does seem to make sense in a lot of ways and they should be able to reduce overheads quite a lot.

Of course if they are going to reduce the number of back office staff, they will also need to reduce the number of CEO's - we can't have two highly paid CEO's - either they will have to do it for half the pay, or let one of them go.

The life and investment is a troubled sector, many large divs I would expect to reduce before long. I'd avoid Phnx, don't like gen ins sector with its reg headwinds and gov interference and the inv cos esp the smaller ones seem to me vulnerable to the pound and Brexit.

Had a chance to look through it, and conclude its Not a great deal for SL, maybe it's a safety in nos. size as funds reduce.

My tip is IOG non divi stock in the oil n gas sector with news due around the corner about a North Sea gas pipeline and strong rumours of buying out a producing asset... no divi but great potential, I have held off from selling here for now!!
