09/4/2014 12:16 | Slightly double-edged push - reduction of 100 in TP, but Ian Gordon of Investec remains a fan. 09 Apr 2014 Standard... STAN Investec Buy 1,326.00 1,290.50 1,700.00 1,600.00 Investec We do have concerns. STAN has already reported the strongest CET1 CRD IV ratio in the UK banking sector, (despite materially lower G-SIFI and Pillar 2A requirements), yet management appears willing to prioritise further capital strengthening ahead of revenue growth. Both issues are important, but we would not wish to see high-return but "non-strategic" assets sacrificed on the altar of gold-plating existing capital strength for anything less than 'full value'. STAN already has the strongest outlook for Return on Equity of any UK bank in 2014e. Indeed, even in its annus horriblis of 2013, its normalised ROE was 11.2% (2012: 12.8%). We expect positive jaws with broadly flat impairments through 2014-16e, with RoEs of 10.8-11.7% over the period. However, we are concerned STAN may overly focus on RoRWA improvement to the detriment of absolute growth. We know that many investors applaud precisely such "renewed" focus on returns versus growth; we are less convinced. The slowdown in Financial Markets revenues in H2 2013 was severe, down 27% to $1.5bn vs. a strong H1 2013 ($2.1bn). Expect a subdued performance in 2014e: we forecast down 9% H1/H1, but up 7% H2/H2. Similarly, we forecast flat transactional revenues in H1/H1, but for H2/H2 we forecast +8%. Buy reaffirmed. Our RoE-g/CoE-g-derived TP is cut to 1600p (from 1700p) but on 1.3x 2014e tNAV, 8.2x 2016e EPS, a 4.7% 2016e dividend yield and RotEs of 12.4-13.1% through 2014-16e, STAN was and remains our sector top pick. Near-term, it is no secret that H1/H1 comparatives will prove challenging and, to make real progress, the bank must offer evidence of a recovery that may not be definitively 'confirmed' before the FY14 results in March 2015. However, once investors see tangible signs of the emerging revenue reacceleration story, we expect the shares to respond strongly. Buy. | miata
09/4/2014 12:01 | And Investec giving it a push today - "However, once investors see tangible signs of the emerging revenue reacceleration story, we expect the shares to respond strongly. Buy." | blackcrossinresidence
