Yes Team GB lol!

STAN is way over sold imho, any slight bit of clarification showing an over zealous US regulator jnr and these could easily recover several pounds.

Some support for the bulls over the banking license here ... in the New York Times

Along with the financial penalties, Standard Chartered may also have its New York banking license revoked because of the activities. Analysts say that prospect remains unlikely, as United States authorities have focused their attention on monetary fines for the British bank.

Just read the "rap sheet" produced by the NY DFS. The language used in the document is florid. It's 27 pages long, and alleges that HSBC committed a large number of sins. Those are summed up into seven "Violations of Law". The document ends with "IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDERED that, any assessment of monetary penalties shall await a formal hearing to be scheduled upon further notice by the Superintendent".

Like I said earlier, a nasty little shakedown.

Extrader - yes, i wasn't questioning your idea, just wondering if the numbers really could be that bad
And its diverting attention from my Olympic watching
i remember when the BP spill happened all sorts of rubbish was posted up by bears/shorts/wannabe shorts - but as someone else has said, being the August silly season has just encouraged the move to be more violent - added some, more at sub £11 if the Yanks get us there

At least they haven't lost billions, like some of the others! I can't believe US regulators didn't know what's been going on, sounds like someone missed out on some commission along the way.

New war between US -UK & Iran without weapons!

Hi Ian D,

I was questioning buywell2's 'guesstimate' that StanChart's earnings from Iran were " USD 3 BN p.a."...., more like a MAX of USD 500M - and more likely USD 50-100M p.a. WHEN THEY WERE ACTIVE, 5 or more years ago.

StanChart took over the trade related business from one of the banks I used to work for, so I'm pretty comfortable re the purely financial side of things, the political dimension is another kettle of fish !

Interesting times.

Can't have been a senior US regulator, as they will all be up in The Hamptons, probably some junior upstart looking for glory whilst the boss is away lol!

These poxy little US City and State regulatory organisations are just there to shake down big overseas companies with "fines" so as to fill up local government's empty coffers and help the unelectable politicians who created them curry some favour with an illiterate electorate who hate foreigners and banks especially.

1600p yesterday 30% off, way too much, thin summer vols is the only reason. Top 4 pension fund holder stands by STAN. All a bit silly really as it is the summer silly season!

Still not bad for the 21st century, compared to the FTSE & AIM (to take 2 extremes).
