How is it that the shares are not suspended - would this not be normal in the face of such evident volatility?

You have to wonder that, given yesterday's UK close at over £16, whether there was not some terrific shorting going on overseas yesterday which required news such as this to pull off....

Extrader - The reality check is that the share price is down 20% whether the claim is true or not. It will be years before the claim is proven or otherwise, by which time investors/traders will have moved on.

Before this fall STAN's market capitalisation was only 2% of the FTSE100, so funds can afford to carry the risk.

I would love to see the real trading book here! A queue as long as your arm, trying to get out. They can't afford to carry the risk, those funds I mean.

STAN are in the top ten of most of their holdings.

You would be pretty naive to think the majors weren't involved in billions, probably trillions of dubious funds sloshing around the globe lol

Didn't billions of Kazak monies pour into Dubai banks over the last 5yrs? etc

The damage has been calculated at about £1.50 a share so hardly a big deal, yanks need that fine to prop up NY state ailing economy lol!

Swings & roundabouts, a few heads roll and some muttering about foreign licences by the Yanks being talked about but won't happen as everyone needs everyone else. Iranians will be cordially invited back later down the road.

We move on.

The Banking Sector Story just keeps on getting Worse

So the STAN profits have come from Iran

The USA will either hit them with a $1 Billion fine

Take away their USA Banking Licence

Or do BOTH to make an example

One would imagine American Financial Institutions will be loathe to do future business with STAN

Plus a drop in yearly profit from IRAN transactions of say $2 Billion
