This why you bank shares are going down.

Odey new target banks.

Odey no longer a billionaire he has lost a lot of his net worth.
Odey is also betting against electric cars.

Please do your own research.

I'm not sure I follow you MRF.

If it's a merger it's it more usual one party makes an offer in the form of shares to the other with the cash element if any being small.

I don't think the financial strength of either BARC or STAN is good enough for a cash offering. STAN were on the ropes and needed a rights issue only 2 years ago. The dividend is still lousy as they rebuild the balance sheet. BARC's dividend isn't much better.

The market reaction suggests the deal looks better for STAN but I'm not sure how they work that out unless they know what the share offer is.

The deal would make sense in terms of geographical fit but I guess it's only going to increase the value of the total by say 5-10% compared with the sum of the parts.

I'm not sure what to do really other than I had a target to sell half my STAN at around 830 before the news. No decision for me to make yet as it isn't even close to that price.

Well it looks like a bit more than speculation. I reckon an initial offer would be £11 and then some other suitor enters forcing it up to £13

Standard Chartered posted 1Q pre-tax $1.19B, compared to $1.21B expected and $990M in the prior-year period. The Bank pointed out: "Underlying profit before tax of $1.3B was up 20% reflecting focus on improving returns (...) Broad-based income growth at the top of the targeted 5-7% medium term range (...) Strong Wealth Management and Transaction Banking momentum where investment is reinforcing differentiation (...) Positive operating leverage of over 3 per cent after funding investments (...) Greater resilience with a 13.9% Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio and improved credit quality."

reversed up from a low of 697 to a higher high of 864, even closer to the 870 level from last year, and now tanked 1.5 quid thus far :)

I bought yesterday at 711p.Investors were disappointed with the small dividend and since then we've had trump trade warsHappy to hold, collect an increasing dividend until trade wars reduce or impact is shown not to be that large

I note that after 2 years of nothing, STAN is paying a small (0.11 USD) final dividend for 2017. This will be paid on 17th May 2018.

I wonder if this signals the return of the fine divis of 2013/2014?
