No support even at these levels. All time low looks like it could be tested.

Taken from an FT article ....Financial Times) Hedge fund short sellers burnt by flurry of UK takeover bids"Shorting any UK mid-cap is insane, literally insane," said one hedge fund executive who specialises in shorting stocks. "The numbers [valuations] are just so low in the vast majority of cases that a $2bn UK company is peanuts for any mid-sized American company. Your sell case has to be unbelievably compelling and feature the stock going down at least 50 per cent", or there is a risk you lose 50 per cent if the stock gets bid for, the person added.

You need to distinguish between debt and rents

We can see from the most recent balance sheet that SSP Group had liabilities of UK£1.05b falling due within a year, and liabilities of UK£1.52b due beyond that. On the other hand, it had cash of UK£303.3m and UK£131.1m worth of receivables due within a year. So it has liabilities totalling UK£2.14b more than its cash and near-term receivables, combined.

When you consider that this deficiency exceeds the company's UK£1.74b market capitalization, you might well be inclined to review the balance sheet intently. In the scenario where the company had to clean up its balance sheet quickly, it seems likely shareholders would suffer extensive dilution.

Shorts closing, or sniff of a bid? It's certainly ripe for a buyout and break up.

Thanks Dave for the explanation and the info re the market cap - I had no idea about prices being walked down in this way

Can't say for sure all of an overhang has cleared but this has clearerly been "walked down" to a price where a buyer and seller agree to exchange ownership of shares, some very large chunks of shares have changed hands recently, inc today, and the share price suddenly notched up after the ones today. Let's see, we may see a decent recovery from here....Re market cap I used the ADVFN one quoted on here.

Thought there were 798 million shares in issue which makes the market cap 1.34 billion. Also how can you tell there is an overhang and that it has been cleared. Genuine question.
