28 points off the share price in a rising market? :-)

I have to be completely honest about today's announcement. I haven't a clue as to what it means or how all of this works. Can anyone else provide some insight?

Sold my holding here a few weeks back at just above this level. Retrospectively it wasn't a great trade as the fund I invested in got hit much harder during the drop. My thinking at the time was the mild weather would dampen domestic demand but I guess the recent drop in energy prices should give them a boost. They always seem to be slower dropping prices than they are to raise them.

Ofgem has today approved £1.1 billion funding for a new subsea link in the north of Scotland. The regulator's decision is £105 million less than the funding request from Scottish Hydro Electricity Transmission (SHE Transmission) to ensure consumers pay no more than necessary.

The new link will connect 1.2GW of new renewable electricity generation following completion in 2018. This additional capacity will increase the resilience of Britain's energy infrastructure. It will connect the electricity grid on either side of the Moray Firth.

Thanks Lord Gnome - I've probably guaranteed that the price will fall to @1621p

Nice one Skinny. This one has certainly had a good whack today, along with all the other of my large cap dividend payers.

Got my quarterly bill from SSE over the weekend. Actual use was 20% lower than expected so they had to give me a chunk of credit back, an inkling of how much demand may have fallen over the mild autumn.

Is that the high taken out? So even at these levels a decent dividends...

If the final divvy increases by 2.6% then that would make total divvy of 88.9p and a yield of 5.3%.

Looks like you've just missed a good buying opportunity, Skinny. Every pull back is being bought into. There must be some determined buyers out there after the income stream. That yield is just too tempting.

Hmmmm - I was quoted 1639.75 to buy my sold shares back earlier and was tempted!

Or just hold for the yield...?
I have broken my usual habit here and not sold on the rise. Whichever HMG is in power cannot use too big a stick on the energy market without risking lights out.

It won't matter who wins, the share price will drop on uncertainty before the election and rise on a known kindergarten escapee in power afterwards.

I would like to sell mine at this level, but I would have to pay CGT on my profits as I am up against the limit for this tax year. It will almost certainly drop prior to the election next May, so I may have to wait for confirmation of a Conservative victory before it regains highs and gives me an opportunity to get out.

Yes it is - if I'm honest, my limit sell got filled before I had time time to reassess it this morning (@8.07).

I've been working on the assumption that the share price will fail at the highs again and a reasonable fall off will follow.

The figures in post 1319 above show the relevant figures that are worth watching - I'm still looking (however tenuously) to buy back at a lower level before the dividend.
