I think that a couple of the initial sites were deemed unsuitable, as per a webcast earlier in the year. More suitable sites had to be found which obviously takes time given the bureaucracy down there. So these (few, I think) are the last, so progress isn't slow. All the transponders are down there as well, being installed.

Something I noticed the other day was that the GEOVS hub can process 15,000 messages a second and the hub really is the heart of the thing. I don't mean to compare what Ocean Power are doing which does sound like a good idea. But the hub's capacity is equivalent to 200 base stations receiving all 4,500 messages per minute that AIS slots allow. Plus they can already integrate the other data sources and streams from satellite and generate alerts etc. That is where most of the SRT moat is. After all, they buy in RADAR, infrared etc in any configuration much as Ocean Power seem to be suggesting.

The other part is in using the transponders cleverly within the AIS protocols to transmit other data.

Not a bad idea, as I said. Market Cap some $12 million, surprised they can lose $10 million. Probably the other way round of course.

I've followed them at a distance for a good while - they were originally planning large-scale energy generation, and when that didn't work out started work on this sort of monitoring application.

I think the power generation is well-proven, although they only have a very few installations, but for the rest it's anyone's guess. I imagine they've got a US military contract of some sort - DARPA? - to develop this, but I've no idea what happens next.

not selling much of anything it seems. Only has turnover of $1.7m and losing $10m+ last year.Which was an improvement on the previous year!

A floating base station in effect. It would be interesting to see if it works in practice, or if it is still more at the 'platform' stage. It would be a hard sell as governments have yet to know what is going on along the coastline, let alone out 40 miles or so.

The Philippines Department of Agriculture, which includes the BFAR, is pitching for an increased budget of 256% in 2021, including 22.5 bn pesos for the fisheries sector (some £375 million). Unfortunately, I can't find any details of their shopping list, but to get any hope of approval these proposed projects have to be thoroughly costed and worked out before being put through the system. Hence a lot of them will have been gestating in the pipeline for a while.

behind a paywall (I don't either). I don't quite see the logic. But it would be one way for SRT's people to get back from the likes of Saudi. Another recent report has it that RAF pilots flying into Saudi on a repatriation flight required Covid tests done withing the 48 hours before arriving (and had to pay themselves to get them done in Harley St, as apparantly the government's facility couldn't do it that quickly). Again the logic is a bit suspect particularly given the high locally transmitted infection rate in Saudi, which seems stuck at about 4,000 new cases a day.

Of course, whether SRT's people would want to go to Saudi until it is a bit more under control is a very important consideration.

I understood Vietnam to be one of the most successful countries in early shutdown to contain the virus and keep the lid on infections and mortality.
Presumed therefore that the urgency of monitoring their fisheries both for the EC and for their own population would be such that the SRT project (if indeed there is one) would by now be progressing towards signatures on paper.
