Plans for a new £500m private London hospital have been halted amid a slowdown in health tourism and spiralling property prices.

Spire Healthcare (SPI.L): Hospital Corporation Of America?
it is good to see shares of Spire Healthcare shares in a whirl this afternoon, as Betaville mentions Hospital Corporation of America as a possible buyer.

The market rumour here on Wall Street Wires on July 12 was that either Spire’s major shareholder Mediclinic or an American player could be in the frame for Spire in terms of M&A. Betalville’s Hospital Corp would fit the bill.

360p remains the big technical trigger for Spire shares (and it could be third time lucky) while last week’s Liberum downgrade effectively flushed out the weak hands in the stock, and was right on cue as a spoiler…

Now trading on a P/E of just 14 - low for a defensive sector with bid rumours rife and should return to growth in 2018.

Solid balance sheet also.

Well visited Spire St Anthony's today, I guess a Friday afternoon is not their busiest time but looked very quiet. Also one ward closed ( Easter I guess)

Not sure this hospital has turned the corner re its upgrade. Appreciate it's just one of many hospitals ( but sort of London flagship) but am going to give this share a miss for the time being . Can see another down leg in the share price before it becomes interesting

Em interesting re NHS looking to expand the waiting times for hips and knees. Can see people going through choose and book or paying themselves in greater numbers. Will take time to kick in and show in Spires numbers but re entry starting to look worthwhile
