Agree regarding merger, that would be great news. SDY the much better balance sheet between the 2, also still a bargain price wise.

Are you sure about trading update? 31 March is last day of financial year, seems too soon to update. Website has it but could be a bug, as it also lists 31/3 as year end.

Brokers estimate 333m turnover this year, can SDY beat that? They didn't have a TU in Spring since 2013 when they beat so we'll know soon, I emailed the company to confirm date.

Isn't an update due on 31st March? Their official website suggests so. I played this share uncannily well a few years ago riding it up from 28p to 75p and selling just a few weeks before it crashed in summer 2015.
I kept my powder dry for some months but jumped into HSS hire at 52p in November but lost my nerve in February selling at 75p, prematurely it seems now. But still a fantastic return on both investments so definitely a happy chappie!

It seems inevitable to me that there will be a merger between HSS and Speedy sooner rather than later so have taken a position here once again. I'd rebuy HSS but cant overcome that mental block about buying stock back at a higher price than what I sold.
If there is an update just after Easter, I hope the new management do not disappoint.

Big volume today, more than half a million shares changed hands. That bot has been buying aggressively lately, a fund must be filling its boots before the May update.

£700m funds announced today for floods defences, SDY could stand to gain from it, on top of any extra sales during December/January.

house prices could do with crashing, releasing equity to kick start aggressive building, construction and plant hire #sick and tired living at home with mum, dad, uncles & aunts, grandma and grandad' house prices are too high for diy, hard landscaping and alteration

also agw uncertainty means roads & sewers and mitigation of flood defense & erosion needs to be observed before fiscal resourse allocation and budgeting

Agreed Napoleon, May results should show signs of improvement and stability. This wasn't so long ago that was trading at 80p and sales are only 11% down since then but share price more than halved.

Any serious signs of a turnaround and this could fly. I think 75% of stock here is held by funds too so very illiquid.

Small top up for me here today, results in May should show the signs of the turnaround. Still a bet as many things can go wrong but IMO all bad news already priced in at these levels.

Recent acquisition looks very promising for future EPS next financial year.

Glassdoor:

Advice to Management
Don't attract and hire qualified employees and have them leave their countries/jobs just to terminate them after a week/month because of the lack of knowledge in running a business. Restructure the management and hire senior management that is educated and actually care about the company, rather than having senior management with barely a high school degree. The business is being driven towards destruction because of the greedy management that has no business running the company

Senior Management are unaware (or ignore) the sometimes appalling service levels mainly due to lack of equipment and people.
Advice to Management
Take a step back and buy more equipment , hire more depot level staff and get involved with the day to day aspects of the company to gain perspective

Cons
Long hours, poor pay, management do not care at all
Lots of back stabbing by management

This is now extremely oversold (RSI 21) with share price near 4 year lows of 28.5. With the new acquisition revenues should stabilise and profits improve. If the turnaround also starts to show signs of life then sales could go back to where they where.

13m savings in administration costs to be realised this year, head count reduced and infrastructure reorganised (depots, IT, Intl business).

Last statement said second half of the year should restore some profitability which is what I am waiting to see with the next results. If this happens re-ratings here could come very quickly from brokers.

Hardly any volume in the market except for a bunch of hedge funds / IB's having a field day with shorts playing the fear game... and making a load of money in the bargain. This is the worst bear market for little real reason. BUy Buy as these guys will want to make money on the way up too

Good acquisition, fair price and earnings enhancing. I think this is a big plus for SDY long term and will help the recovery story a lot.
