02/9/2008 17:45 | I believe Spectrum's payphones are turning a profit mostly due to the advertising on they by Clearchannel.Been a while since i went into a red box! | ![]() battlebus
01/9/2008 18:24 | Oooh! You are awful, but I like you. ;-) | broomsticks
01/9/2008 18:09 | I do not know about this chacellor having a red Box ! but i do remember Julian Clarey saying at a comedy awards in 93, QUOTE;"I've just been fisting Norman Lamont. Talk about a red box" | ![]() tenapen
01/9/2008 17:18 | You have to hand it to BT the company doesn't miss many tricks and here is one of its latest. Just what is BT doing with those old telephone boxes? The company is going to let councils adopt one, apparently, for aesthetic reasons. "It's for those guys that liked the look of their pretty red telephone box on the village green." and there's more, "For councils that want to keep a threatened BT pay phone, red or otherwise, the telco has devised a scheme called 'Sponsor a kiosk' - whereby, for an annual fee of £500, BT won't remove the call box and will also maintain a full working phone service." Now there's a threat for you. Nice little earner, red boxes, erm, doesn't the Chancellor have one. You may ask what has this got to do with Spectrum Interactive, well what I want to know is, does Spectrum have any 'phone boxes, red or otherwise that the public can adopt at a per annum price? aimo | broomsticks
27/8/2008 19:43 | Well every little helps. Quite surprised that people still use payphones in airports. The new heathrow payphones seem to be trading above expectations so lets hope Luton is a similar situation. From the recent trading statement results to be released late september. No doubt they will be better than last year and may sign a return to dividends which was one of my reasons for investing here. | ![]() battlebus
27/8/2008 19:34 | I was just a little concerned about them making such an announcement about such a small contract. I had hoped that the quiet period was because they had too many contracts won to announce each ;-) Still was it End Sept we had the results last year ? | ![]() rbcrbc
27/8/2008 13:48 | Well another contract win with Luton Airport. Looks like BT couldn't turn a profit here so lets hope Spectrum can after the costs involved in installations etc. | ![]() battlebus
19/8/2008 08:15 | Thanks RBCRBC. | ![]() battlebus
18/8/2008 20:36 | Not really, the contracts would in all likelyhood stay in place and it may open up opportunities within the new owners other activities. | ![]() rbcrbc
16/8/2008 14:57 | Anyone see a potential problem for Spectrum if BAA are forced to sell some of thier airports. The contract with BAA runs till 2010 from memory. | ![]() battlebus
31/7/2008 15:49 | Stewacg that has crossed my mind too but i'm of the opinion that this business model has pleny of life left yet. Who can even read those small screens on a phone or offer products like print spectrum. Hotels etc make a large chunk of profits from this system and like travel lodge they are budget accomodation so need to make money from add ons. I'm just back from the USA and did avail of the wifi in the hotel at a small fee but in MCO airport the internet terminals were all in use. | ![]() battlebus
30/7/2008 21:32 | The thing that worries me, and doubtless many other potential buyers, is just how long this business model will hold up. Have just been to the USA where all the best hotels & many airports offer free & fast wireless internet access in order to be competitive with one another. The days of fancy and expensive internet access in UK hotel rooms will be limited, esp with the advent of lots of users using mobile broadband. I was sitting in my local airport on the way out using 3's mobile access & staring at plenty of unused Spectrum terminals. They also have all those installation costs so it will be interesting to see how much these profits have actually grown their cash pile. So battlebus, I wouldn't invest too much if I were you, esp as they have a negative tangible asset value. | ![]() stewacg
30/7/2008 20:49 | Yes patience pays the greatest reward and the foundations seem to be laid right so 30p is possible 2-3 years from now. | ![]() battlebus
30/7/2008 20:46 | yep - an excellent update - pity the market didnt notice. Maybe we will get back to 30p by the end of Sept..... The road uphill is always hard. | ![]() rbcrbc
30/7/2008 19:51 | Pretty good trading statement. Pretax tax profits of 1 million and an end to German operations. More contracts should keep the profits coming. | ![]() battlebus

27/6/2008 19:09 | YES read a comment by their owner on register which is unusual but he did get his point across to the posters who slated the fact you couldn't go that far from a call box to make a call with uko1. he did say he was working with others on an alliance to improve coverage. | ![]() battlebus
27/6/2008 18:17 | It looks like the company (UK01) is working on a tight budget; according to The Register it only paid around £77,000 for the GSM licence. Considering which I'll reserve judgement until later. aimo, dyor | broomsticks

27/6/2008 17:16 | battlebus, This article says "hundreds of payphone kiosks" and that Spectrum Interactive" has just under 5200 public payphones in the UK." That number should be enough for UK01 to make a start. Time will tell whether that start will provide a base for the novel business model that UK01 is proposing to operate, | broomsticks
27/6/2008 15:48 | Sounds good Broomsticks. Will this lead to an increase in payphones? | ![]() battlebus
27/6/2008 15:40 | I haven't bought any shares recently either but may have done if I had had the following information earlier. My computer has been limping along for a while and finally expired over a week ago. I am now struggling, Grrrrrrr, with a different PC complete with a different system. Having spent today catching up with some news about my shareholdings, Spectrum being one of them, I have just unearthed the news article that I have posted below, which as you will see was released on June 19 so it's possible that there has been another write-up somewhere else today.
