Surprised it is still at 34 with this news hanging over it . I would imagine will drop to 25p unless there is some news to keep investors calm .

34.25 getting bombarded with sells . Someone moping them up .

Perhaps the prospect of the government getting sued by a phalanx of mining companies might make somebody wake up. Declare that all existing players may continue, but put a moratorium on new mining while they see how it works out. Perhaps just a bit too common sense for politico's?

Quite understandable markth126, I imagine a lot of private holders have had enough of this pot that never boils.

All the commercial skulduggery and now politico's trying to carve some action! This stunt will simply drive capital away from Ecuador if it gets passed.

ditto markth

I was deliberating last night and all in all did not think 35p would hold this time ... this left field news about Ecuador mining was the tipping point.

Today's not finished of course so could well bounce

Perhaps all the miners downing tools and stopping pay checks for a couple of days might get people to realise that fashionable politics can seriously damage your quality of life?

Any big players wanting to pick up a few more are in luck.

All the work that has gone into dressing Ecuador up as a 'safe' jurisdiction to do business, is being thrown away. But the leftie greenies won't understand the damage that will cause, or take any responsibility for it.

I have picked out these two pieces, perhaps bits of straw to a drowning man.

--------------------------------------

In addition, he stressed that the justice body should generate a precedent that would make it clear that it is not possible to carry out local popular consultations on issues of national interest.

In his speech on May 24th, Lenin Moreno appealed to the Constitutional Court. "If any mechanism is authorized, involving a breach that obliges us to pay compensation, I ask you to also invite the people to decide where those resources will come from and what the sources of funding are, which would replace the income that We should quit. "

---------------------------------------

Seems that the president is making a case that national interest should take precedent over local interests.

One wonders if some influential left wing people are simply looking for pay offs?

ThankYou Lefrene. This “should” bounce hard if the outcome is favourable which as you say would be very surprising (not to mention foolish) if it were not ruled in favour.

At the end of the day the powers that be usually get their way. Just have to go through the political wrangling first to show they are “listeningR21;

That said and for balance. Don’t like to think of the outcome if it’s ruled against! Gary will get his 20p let’s put it that way as unlikely as it is.

The translation of Pob69 post.

----------------------------------------------

Although mining activity, still in advanced exploration in the country, accounted for 53% of foreign direct investment (FDI), there is a great rejection of its development from social sectors, environmentalists and citizenship in general.

The future of this activity can be defined in the coming weeks due to judicial decisions, and a presidential warrant issued in the last message to the nation last May 24.

According to the mining chamber, the revenue potential for the next five years could exceed 5 billion dollars; More than 3.2 billion in exports and more 1.2 billion in taxes for the state.

New query
On May 27th, the constitutional Judge Agustín Grijalva Jiménez dictated an order to begin the procedure for a popular consultation presented by Wilmer Manuel Meneses Ibarra, common solicitor of community members of the parish of Jijón and Caamaño, Canton Mira, Carchi Province.

This consultation, whose admissibility opinion is the responsibility of the Constitutional Court (CC) has the following question: Do you agree with the mining in the territories of the communities settled in the parishes of Lita, Carolina, Jijon and Camaño, Goaltal?

THE DATA
Mining generated 743 million dollars of foreign direct investment in 2018. Santiago Yépez, president of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Mining, commented that the issue is serious, because if the CC approves the question and gives way to the consultation, "anywhere in the country can be PED To go the prohibition of productive activities, not only mining. "

In addition, he stressed that the justice body should generate a precedent that would make it clear that it is not possible to carry out local popular consultations on issues of national interest.

From last Monday, the CC has 20 days to pronounce. Next Wednesday, at 13:00, in Quito, the audience will be held. "The Constitutional Court's opinion is key to determining what the future of mining in Ecuador will be or won't be," concluded Yépez.

Call for alternative income
In his speech on May 24th, Lenin Moreno appealed to the Constitutional Court. "If any mechanism is authorized, involving a breach that obliges us to pay compensation, I ask you to also invite the people to decide where those resources will come from and what the sources of funding are, which would replace the income that We should quit. "

For Yépez, the position of the Presidency is positive for the sector, but the important thing is that it translates into facts that show that the mining issue is indeed important for the development of the country.

For his part, Pedro Bermeo, spokesman for Yasunidos, rejected Moreno's request and stated that "We must leave the Extractivita economy and seek development based on biodiversity and tourism".

José Chalco, Constitutionalist and professor at the University of Azuay, explained that the request of the President is not necessary, because between the powers of the CC can dictate, in his sentences, jurisprudence on matters of the budget of the State, even Establish alternative budget items. JS

Risk. Rattlesnake has reserves of 10.9 million tons of copper and more than 23 million ounces of gold.

--------------------------------

Looks like Cascabel translates as 'rattlesnake'. I get the impression this is typical political power politics playing upon fashionable 'greenie' concerns to bolster the position of the player. It has another 18 days to reach a conclusion. One can only trust that common sense will prevail, since if the Ecuadorian gov again shuts the door on miners, they won't ever come back and you've shot the golden goose. Tourism and 'Eco' projects are never going to generate the sort of cash to bring Ecuador up to first world standards. One hopes that those who like to agrandise themselves and make political progress by spending other peoples money, cotton on to that.

Market cap currently circa $830 million, with just one potential mine valued at lower estimate of $4.1 billion, and nowt for the rest of Cascabel or the other 12 identified sites. For anyone with deep pockets it's a mining bargain.
