rougepierre,

Agree with you on possible deal with Barrick, particularly after Bristow's recent comment about copper and gold porphyry deposits posted above. Interesting news that Buffett has recently bought a large holding in Barrick after being negative on gold for many years. Good for Bristow to have such high value paper to play with.

Many thanks and I think it is a great read showing all the angles. We only have 83 days to go from now and some sort of proposal most likely will be on the table....IMHO

Posted on several sites and initially tweeted by Cornerstone - a very interesting read!

Odd that all the recently expressed antagonism by all the noisy protagonists has dissolved somewhat in the summer heat! All the cirling waggons seem to be in a holding position.

I like the other possibility. Maybe they have a plan.

As I said yesterday, I have nothing to offer when it comes to geology but the layman's message I have had regarding Porvenir is that it is much bigger than Alpala, had better prospects than Alpala and that the surrounding soil samples are chemically richer than Alpala. Whether this means there is a 1% chance it's bigger than Alpala or whether it means nothing, I don't know but only Rio Amarillo seems to excite nick more.

LF, I expect the timing of PFS and Franco to be manipulated by nick to give best advantage. We know from the Franco results that they have extended the bridging loan into 2021 and so it can wait.

Of course, the other possibility is that they hit the jackpot with their first drill and are getting it officially assessed before publication.... We can all dream.

Lowtrawler, the PFS should help, but Solg have a long history of being late with everything. Will the Franco deal hold off until the CGP thing is sorted? Perhaps things will perk up a couple of weeks before BHP get released? No doubt timing is everything, and the players known and unknown, will have their game plan.

Mk, they announced a 1 man portable drilling rig getting to 91m at la Hueca within 5 days of it happening. If they're consistent, it means they haven't commenced drilling at Porvenir despite the camp being near ready 7 weeks ago.Can we expect SOLG to be consistent?

We need the Franco deal signed off. That will make a lot of interested parties think hard and who knows maybe they might even do something.

Lefrene, it will get interesting before then. The regular exploration updates, PFS, CGP and speculation over BHP will make sure of that. These activities will attract the speculators and volatility will ramp up.

It will get interesting once BHP come out of purdah, they've had plenty of time to consider their strategy. This has been going nowhere for such a long time that another couple of months is nothing.

I much appreciate the quality of discussion here thank you RP and LT. I know that I know very little at all about this situation, except that the asset is worth very much more than the current market value. Add in the other attributes that make Cascabel a comparatively low cost site to start-up, with rapid payback, will have it on the wish list of several big hitter miners.

Thanks rp, I have not pretended to base any of my speculation on evidence. Hence "in my view", "As I see it", and "personally". As lefrene says, the main players have their cards close to their chests and so evidence is hard to come by.

I don't believe anything I have said points to Newcrest being the only interested party. I am suggesting that they are the player currently orchestrating a move where they hope to obtain SOLG on the cheap. I have suggested how that could play out to their advantage.

My main aim in the posts is to outline why supporting Nick is to the great advantage of all PI's and the importance that we should vote, and vote with, Nick should we get to that position. Most PI's never vote on anything and so we need to raise awareness that this will be needed should we get there.

As I said...everybody is entitled to their opinion...

Yours is that Newcrest is behind this.

Let us be clear, that is an opinion without any evidence or substance whatsoever.

The EGM...if it happens...will be AFTER BHP's handcuffs come off and...

AFTER the PFS, which will massively update the NPV...

Your scenario implies that only Newcrest are interested...

I could list a dozen companies that might well have an interest at the right price.

My opinion is that SOLG will not take this to production unless in partnership with either BHP or Newcrest.

But my own opinion is that Barrick will end up taking this over at a price north of 100p...

You might want to read all the detailed ongoing research into CGP and their Board, on LSE...

I say again...any respected Major getting into bed with this lot would want their CSR heads testing...

Why not keep it simple and bid for the company direct...CGP would still get a better deal than SOLG's current offer...

AIMHO as usual...

MK, CGP are not interested in a sensible outcome. This is a vindictive act by a bitter and twisted individual who is likely to be shafted by Newcrest. Getting a higher share price or good exploration results will not prevent CGP following through. The only thing that will cause the requisitioned meeting to be withdrawn is if BHP make clear they won't support it.

On a brighter note. Consider the scenario where the CGP motion goes ahead but fails. Newcrest no longer have a route to obtain SOLG on the cheap. Having voted against the Board in the meeting, they will look weak if they don't take action and that either means selling their shares or putting in a bid. They clearly want to be a major player in Ecuador which makes a bid the most likely outcome. If BHP have also voted against the Board but lost, the bid may be a joint one with BHP. However, it will need to be at a fair price or it will fail. The lost vote will show other potential bidders the weak position BHP / Newcrest find themselves in and so other bids will follow.

We can speculate until the cows come home, each player is keeping their cards close to their chest whilst CGP like a loose cannon will throw herself at whoever wants her for the right price. BHP is plainly the big bruiser, but what if another like Barrick decides it wants a slice of the pie? Buy CGP and do a deal with the other players pushing BHP and Newcrest into a minority position? Whichever way it goes the price here will be higher than at present.
