I think its going to be very significant to see Tenstar and DGR holdings after this issue...both Nick Mather vehicles...

Given his BIO below do we really believe he will take SOLG to production...?

I still believe he will make his mint in SOLG, retire to DGR Global (massively capitalised as a result of a SOLG takeover) and with a huge personal fighting fund from Samuel Holdings, Tenstar etc...

So watch out for the next company he takes a personal interest in...

The only major miners that Nick Mather follows on LinkedIn are BHP, RTZ and CODELCO...

As a matter of interest...Tenstar Trading (significant shareholder here) increased its holding in DGR by 35 million shares to 18.9% through the recent share issue...

Is Nick feathering his retirement nest in anticipation of a takeover of SOLG...?

Thanks for the tip pparekh...made an initial £5k investment in REG.TSX...looks like another SOLG in the making but with a lesser number of overall prospects...

Looks like 64 million traded ending with what looks like a 9 million buy at 21.50p, but I guess that could be underwriters?

ADVFN, is not accurate in it's reporting of trades, it just assumes that a fraction either side of the mid-price counts as a sale or buy. Naturally by the end of the day the book will balance.

Guys, just for my understanding, how has the price stayed roughly the same i.e. 21.45 Bid, 21.50 Offer, despite there being 25 million buys, and less than 7 million sells.

LT - agreed, long term hold for me too. Hopefully the new explorations will get the price moving! In my opinion I don't see the price moving till any significant news.

Mam fach, the key to getting any real value from SOLG is successful exploration of their other prospects. Everything has been concentrated on bringing Cascabel to production and the exploration activities have taken a back seat. This equity raise will get a couple of sites explored. If we're lucky, they'll both be huge and we can retire.

Haven't Barrick taken over Randgold ?
No need to bother with placing just as easy to buy at placing price.
If only we were privy to know what is going on between the scenes.
Been holding too long to give up now.

rp - I am not 100% sure, but I thought that BHP and Newcrest both have a person on the board. Maybe someone can enlighten us?

The Financial Review (behind paywall) are saying that neither BHP nor Newcrest participated in the latest issue.

SOLG is in my long-term buy and hold portfolio so not worried about short term price dips. Personally, I'm not expecting a price impact to result from holdings RNS's in the next few days.

The risk of not buying now LT is the Holdings RNSs that could emerge with either or both increased holdings for the likes of Blackrock and DGR or even the emergence of someone like Barrick...

My average price is now bang on 20p, which is where I started in 2018 before doubling money at 40p+, selling out and starting all over again...

Between us we now hold almost 700,000...holding long and strong...

We're bouncing along at the issue price today, even with the probable support of the underwriters. Over the next few days, think we will go sub 20p.

The RNS said that existing institutions were subscribing during the offer and so BHP / Newcrest may have retained their percent ownership.

I thought BHP and Newcrest had anti-dilution rights, so could maintain their % if they wanted.

Has anybody else noticed that this issue takes both BHP and Newcrest below 15%?

While in the UK and Canada, holding 15% confers one specific right, it os not uncommon for a 15% holder to be offered a seat on the Board...

(15% or more: can apply to court to object to a variation of share class rights;)

Indeed in Australia this could be said to be the normal expectation:

"Digby says a shareholder who owns 15 to 20 per cent or more of a listed company and who seeks representation on the board, usually approaches the chairman for board representation. Such discussions are typically behind closed doors and the board considers the shareholder’s intentions and what he or she offers the company and board. If convinced the shareholder’s long-term interests are aligned with other shareholders and that the candidate is suitable, the board will appoint the proposed director and endorse his or her election to shareholders at the next annual general meeting."

hxxp://www.companydirectors.com.au/director-resource-centre/publications/company-director-magazine/2012-back-editions/september/feature-taking-a-shareholder-onboard

Both Newcrest and BHP are Oz based companies...

And if Newcrest (and BHP) are unhappy at the latest issue, or especially the Frtanco Nevada deal, would you really want them sat in the Board room during (and possibly objecting to) the detailed discussions and approval of the Financing deal?

Especially if they or anyone else has pretensions to make a bid...

Of course, having the £26 million will help us prove up four other prospects as well as Alpala, helping NM's attempt to make us 'bid proof', but I suspect like many others on here that NM has knowingly stirred up a hornets nest to either flush out BHP/Newcrest interest now or tempt others such as Barrick to enter the fray...

Finally, if it emerges that Barrick does have a stake, that could be an important component of the 'poison pill' bid defence...or would Barrick be the 'white knight'...?

Much to think about...

The lesson (as with all listed cos - although pi's are slow to learn it esp on AIM) is that companies needing funding have to play poker with potential investors - who need to beware unless they're ace poker players themselves.

I guess one might as well switch off until mid October when BHP comes out of purdah, perhaps some value enhancing news might emerge by then, it certainly needs it!
