Thank you Relliot10

Arcadian, to me it feels less like shadows on the cave wall, and more like having been dropped into a deep hole, and now the miscreants are pi$$ing in!

If the Constitutional Court agrees that the question is legal and constitutional then the defendants must get signatures from 10% of the local population for a referendum to take place. The 4 parishes contain 8,000 inhabitants. Only one local mayor of the 4 parishes attended and he spoke in favour of a referendum.

The La Hora article states that:

On May 27, the constitutional judge Agustín Grijalva Jiménez issued an order for this hearing to be held. And until next Friday, June 7, at 4:30 p.m., the deadline for people or organizations that did not intervene will be able to present their papers on the subject in writing.
After that, the Constitutional Court will have 5 days to present its opinion on the legality and constitutionality of the question.

Not sure whether that would be 5 working days or just 5 days. In the case of the latter 5 days from 7 June is tomorrow, 12 June.

You and I are both in the cave looking at the shadows on the wall . We both need someone on the outside to tell us what is real. Pob69 is much better placed than us when it come to information on such matters although I shall obviously try to help myself as well as it is the critical/timing factor.

Arcadian, as this is a local matter then I would expect it to be some sort of county court, and for the decision to be given in open court for the those in the public gallery and any media people to hear first. But then what the heck do I know about Ecuador and it's legal niceties? Most likely the first thing we will notice is the share price popping up.

Perhaps we should concentrate, not on the things we can`t control or foresee and focus on finding out the best and most immediate means of knowing the decision when it is made. How will the decision be announced : in open court, by public proclamation or a news bulletin? Has anyone telephoned SOLG IR to learn how they will find out: presumably from their country manager but they may hear direct from the government.

Having said that I`m sure that Pob69 will have it sorted and will share his thoughts with us mortals.

Alas we can take no high ground here,
three years after a decision taken so clear,
the slithery cowards whimper and haver still,
because it's only their seats they truly hold dear!

Agree entirely. But it is much better to get parameters in place now.
Then everyone will know where they stand.

It is indeed the lure of the potential here that is the hook. If just Alpalla is reckoned to be worth $4.1 billion, and there are several other Alpalla's out there, then the price should be a lot higher to reflect that potential. But it's things like the current problem that makes one understand why values are lower in crazy countries. Ecuador has to de-risk itself if it wants those potential tax flows to pay off its debts and raise the standard of living.

I normally say a buying opportunity.
Must admit I Was tempted but I think i'll hang on until we get clarity.
I know disappointment doesn't cover your feelings.
Many of us been holding for years. Last 2-3 years been miserable.
Down from 46p and we have expectations of £££;s.
Holding on to my shares.

Well I just added. If it's good enough for IC to tip last week it's good enough for me. Positives far outweigh the negatives and risk reward here looks good.

Each day we wait for the judgement the share price will continúe to fall as those realise their monies could be wipped out.

Anybody holding now must front the possibility that they could lose the lot .

Imho it is just not worth the risk .

We can buy back after the result even if it means paying more .

The other question that has not been answered is if we do win then is there a right for the greens to appeal at any stage in the futue ..or does this guarentee we can mine Alpala .

"very disappointing" is hardly how I feel about it! It does though mean a transfer of shares from the alarmed to the confident, all good business for the MMs. I ask myself would I go short at this level? No I wouldn't because it's all too unpredictable, at any moment these judges could announce something that turns it all around even though we believe it's in purdah until the 20th?

Ecuador has gone from a promising 'mining friendly' place, to an Alice in Wonderland place of the quixotic and unpredictable. If the government expects serious levels of foreign investment, this sort of thing must not be allowed to happen again.

All the effort and exploration costs should be rewarded.
We can only hope for a successful outcome.

They cannot do it slowly . They have to make a stand now . Whats the point in spending millions only to have the project taking away by a few locals .

Who wants to invest in companies drilling for minerals when there is a high chance that these projects will be taken away .

mknight, that's why I believe the government will work to change legislation, I'm quite sure the mining companies are telling the government that certainty is essential or they will cease operations. I would expect the government to make changes quietly but to make them nonetheless.

Politics is a tricky old business as we know all too well, hence the need for due process to be seen to be happening, even if the time lag is exasperating.

There's hundreds of $ billions in potential tax revenues to be had from mining, all governments are spend thrifts of other peoples money, the Ecudorean government is going to wave goodbye to the buried treasure.

I agree it should never have been allowed to come to this, but I don't believe even in South America that they are crazy enough to kill the golden goose. Every miner in the country will be watching and making their views known to the government. At this point the government won't want to rock the local boat, but whatever the result I should think the government will be changing legislation so that matters of national importance will supercede local politics. To not do so will see flight of foreign capital, and it won't be back for a very long time.

Should have paid this guy off, leadership has gone said for ages he should have stepped aside, more interested in getting his share options, which will never happen now, and hasnt kept his eye on the ball.
