ddubzy: It was only a short while ago that SCT were going to cancel the divi on COVID uncertainty, its now reinstated including the March divi plus a special, albeit reduced slightly. Cant keep the market happy it seems

mad foetus: I've bought in small, I understand the slight caveat at the end of the results but in a way think they are more relevant to market generally than SCT in particular

peterlowen: At the other end of the mid-caps, Softcat shed 11%, after cutting its special payout. Softcat raised its total ordinary dividend by 11% to 16.6 pence and proposed a special payout of 7.6p, though this is down 53% from a year earlier. The IT infrastructure products and services firm's revenue climbed 8.6% to GBP1.08 billion in the 12 months ended July 31, with pretax profit rising 10% to GBP93.6 million.

ddubzy: Expected a 10% rise, not drop. Wouldnt be surprised if it was a blue finish. 23p odd divi soon

siggs44: Great trading update and fabulous that they are going to pay the dividend that was due earlier this year plus the dividend due at the end of the year. Expecting a good rise in the share price today.

discodave4: From today's Shares mag:'Peel Hunt also suggests IT reseller Softcat (SCT) couldcome out of the crisis in a much stronger position. It comments: 'With a well-diversified revenue split, including over a third coming from government IT spend and a large portion aligned to work-from-home tech vendors such as Microsoft and Cisco, structurally Softcat is better placed than most to navigate the potential headwinds to UK tech spending. This will see it being gifted a larger market share as recovery kicks in.'

boadicea: I have worked similar figures as Valhamos for operating margins with slightly different results (e.g. they depend on whether one is using statutory or 'adjusted' values - both have their faults) and also whether updating for half year results. SCT produced ptp of 68M from revenue of 797M, 8.54% CCC produced ptp of 119M from revenue of 4350M, 2.74% .... so on that metric SCT is more than 3 times as profitable as CCC. It might be argued that CCC has correspondingly more room for improvement and might be bought on those grounds, while SCT is already very efficient and will be limited in ability to push margins much further. I don't know enough about either company to pass judgement on that. SCT does have a very good growth rate but will need to maintain it and the margins to justify its current valuation.

boadicea: DevonWood (450) - I think the difference is more or less justified by their different growth rates and balance sheets and possibly risk factors too. In particular compare their net debt figures. SCT looks an unusually clean and understandable operation which may appeal to the less sophisticated investor. Something is clearly giving it a premium rating and is causing me mild regret at having top-sliced it prematurely a couple of times. Overpriced (SCT) or a bargain (CCC) - only time will tell!
