06/5/2021 12:25 | Don't much like name changes ( or re-colour branding - think Sainsbury's). Usually a mint is spent on the exercise and the best one can hope for is that no actual harm will be done to the business. At least they have not come up with anything weird - must have economised on the brand and marketing consultants! | ![]() 1knocker
23/4/2014 15:49 | I used this elsewhere on an NWS thread header under the chart - easily modifiable. On edit - looks like half the links are not allowed here. The Smiths News Group operates in distinct but complementary markets; newspaper and magazine wholesaling, Smiths News, book wholesaling, Bertrams and education supplies, The Consortium. Smiths News is the UK's leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler. The company distributes newspapers and magazines on behalf of national publishers as well as a number of regional publishers. It serves approximately 30,000 retailers across England and Wales, supplying large general retailers as well as smaller independent newsagents. | ![]() skinny
23/4/2014 15:40 | OK, I have started a new thread using the new epic CNCT. Any brilliant suggestions for the header (not too time consuming) will be considered. | ![]() edmundshaw
23/4/2014 06:29 | Interims not as bad as I had feared. "Old" business still performing strongly. Book margins look very thin. | ![]() 18bt

22/4/2014 10:28 | In case anyone missed it... "SMITHS NEWS PLC CHANGES NAME TO CONNECT GROUP PLC Trading in the Company's shares on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange under the new name of Connect Group PLC will take effect from 23 April 2014. The Company's stock exchange ticker will change to CNCT." | ![]() fangorn2

07/4/2014 20:05 | Is this the article you refer to? By Moira O'Neill, 04 December 2013 How to become an Isa millionaire IC Lord Lee's Isa portfolio Lord Lee holds 40 stocks because it "makes sense and is manageable". His current holdings include the following six stocks - all of which he has held for many years: ■ Treatt (TET) ■ Air Partner (AIP) ■ Dairy Crest Group (DCG) ■ BBA Aviation (BBA) ■ Fenner (FENR) ■ Smiths News (NWS) However, Lord Lee's is a high risk approach to investing, that won't be suitable for everyone. Here are two case studies that highlight how other investors have reached major milestones with their Isa portfolios by taking less risk and investing via managed funds. | ![]() cw2000
06/4/2014 22:31 | The dividend is more than twice covered by earning, what is he on about | ![]() modform
06/4/2014 21:30 | In a recent IC piece JL indicated his ISA (by repute £1M+) held only 12 stocks and this was this is one of the 12. Paul Scott recently castigated the company for a weak balance sheet and said it should not be paying a dividend. I | ![]() bscuit
06/4/2014 14:10 | John lee in the Weekend FT refers to the current drop from the peak as something of an aberration given the update indicating profits unchanged from last year and a near 6% yield. Shares should respond tomorrow. | ![]() beazer2
04/4/2014 08:43 | If broker price targets were worth the paper they are written on that would be interesting. Still mildly diverting - thanks! :) | ![]() edmundshaw

25/3/2014 13:53 | trading statement was not in line....dawsons supposed to grow, not be flat. that said, looks like a buy to me - need it to hang fire until April 6, then is screaming ISA purchase | ![]() markie7
25/3/2014 13:52 | Hm, delayed trade post of 50k sell from 10.20am, just under 150p. Hopefully a one-off. | ![]() edmundshaw
25/3/2014 10:58 | Added. Way oversold, I had enough till now, but just too tempting under 150p. The trading statement was after all in line with prior year earnings, books still growing turnover, which if the mix stays on lower margins will still be accretive for future years. And those long contracts for papers and magazines support the share and the dividend for years to come, limiting downside risk. All with a super dividend yield and PER of 7. | ![]() edmundshaw
25/3/2014 10:37 | The chart does look dire, but it's starting to look over sold to me. | ![]() skinny
25/3/2014 10:32 | Lord G, 150 was where I bought last time. Looking for an re-entry point tbh. Cheers Fen, will keep an eye on it from hereon in. | ![]() fangorn2
25/3/2014 10:16 | I was taking a look I guess it could be around 7% prospective yield, that seems high but I already took advantage of that yield and more previously and there are other candidates in the market to attract me, diversification is not a bad thing though. Looking at the chart (novice reading of it) it points to the price going lower yet... | ![]() fenners66
25/3/2014 10:15 | 150 should provide strong support - famous last words. This could be the smart entry point, but I would want to wait until the next update to make sure things aren't getting worse. You may miss bottom, but bottom picking has never been my strong point. | ![]() lord gnome |
