Strange as both Companies have issued confident statements lately. Could be a shake to remove weak holders and take their dividend entitlement due next week.

Encouraging and positive statement. Bought 2000 at the opening. The yield adds to the attraction. I maintain a 520p target on a 18 month basis. CH.

Not this time ...

.....after markets closed the FTSE Russell confirmed that Capita and Dixons Carphone will leave the FTSE 100 following the latest quarterly reshuffle. The rebalance sees Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust and Rentokil Initial join the blue chip index. All changes will take effect from the start of trading on March 20.

Inevitable profit taking by short termers after this strong move upwards recently. Hopefully this will reveal a new support level at or around current prices. I regard this as a longer term investment with a good dividend and I maintain a target of 520 within 18 months. CH.

Agree ct. The sector`s doing well at the moment - I hold SKG as well - and trying to get price rises to stick.

Another all time high close. Excellent short term gain but this is exactly the type of Company that I shall hold for the longer term and buy on any weakness within the trend parameters.

Dr Smith,
Yes SMDS seem to carry on pretty much regardless of trends elsewhere though helped by recent currency fluctuations. I like the fact that the management seem to be well in control and on top of the situation with good increasing revenues on a number of fronts. Diversifying their offering is also reassuring, as it spreads the risk. One feels happy to just sit on the stock and wait for the steady share price increase to roll on while other stocks jump up and down.

GI. That's my style too.
I believe the market is driven share price wise by day traders and short termers.
I too go with co's with good management track record.
Slow and steady is boring, but as a PI, usually looking to the longer term I am happy with that.
I don't currently hold SMDS, but have from time to time and they are on my short list.

From just under 250p to just under 450p in 3 years or so. Smiths just keeps rising steadily. Glad I have hung on to it for 4-5 years now. I have been reassessing my shareholdings recently and I have come to the conclusion that persisting with good management over a long period pays off. It is not my fastest riser in my portfolio (thank you Fevertree and recently Cap X) but it is probably the most steady and consistent. I have another stock (Volvere) very different type of company but one that steadily rises in a similar manner, very rarely retreating at all. Just hope the current market strength continues though the oncoming closeness of Brexit is one hell of an unknown threat.

Looking good - as the saying goes "the longer the consolidation the bigger the move" and we have had a pretty long consolidation period here

Some of the best movements often occur when a share price successfully tests a breakout upon a return to that level and again resumes the upward trend. Hopefully this is what we are witnessing here with a new support level being established. CH
