05/11/2020 03:34 | I think jobs will be an even more urgent issue in places like Newport very soon. | gbjbaanb
04/11/2020 19:40 | NRW definitely treating this as a new application based on updated environmental legislation...and who can blame them? They will be in the firing line with the protesters once the EP has been granted and will need all the ammunition they can get in order to pacify them. Even so, ultimately, I fully expect the application to be a successful one. SAE have already made a substantial investment in this project to see it fail on this milestone. It's also in the interests of the local economy to see this passed due to the jobs it creates both directly & indirectly. NRW have a duty to consider this element when making their decision. We must also remember that NRW must work within its legal parameters. All in all, I feel confident of a positive outcome. | tempesttroy
04/11/2020 16:45 | Hi all. Seems to be a case of waiting for news now. The deadlines have passed for the last formal request for information from NRW so my guess is that the decision will come around the end of the year as per the latest tentative target date from NRW. Im still confident but it's not guaranteed. I think a sticking point is whether this is considered a variation or a new project. I think NRW are treating it as a new project and are therefore being more rigorous on things like wildlife habitats than the company probably expected. Im braced for bad news but this is still fundamentally undervalued based on tidal alone so I would hope the share price doesnt fall too far. On that front prospects for tidal could start to look much better depending on the energy white paper (due any day now) and if Uskmouth fails I imagine they would try to pivot quickly to projects in Asia. This would test the patience of the humble investor to breaking point and there would be questions on whether the company has enough cash to survive long enough to bring any of these projects through but I think they would muddle through. A tidal CfD win next September would be huge so that would be the next date I would be looking to if Uskmouth hits the skids. I think they would stand a good chance of winning on appeal but who knows how long that would take. | clabburn
29/10/2020 16:54 | Thanks TempestTroy. A few of the posters here, including you, have obviously been following the approvals process far more closely than I have, and I hope that it works out OK for you. My point really might perhaps come down to: the authorities control the process in the end; they can, I think, bend the process to get whatever result they want; they are unpredictable; and it is entirely debatable whether or not the Uskmouth development is environmentally beneficial overall. I'll wait and see what happens as Uskmouth puts me off SAE. Just had a look to see what that earlier link was about, but blocked I see, so can anyone explain what it's about? | muckshifter
29/10/2020 15:18 | Hi muchshifter, thanks for sharing your opinions/concerns. You could well be right. There's no cast iron guarantee the EP will be granted. I'm naturally concerned to read the previous link accusing SAE of not being entirely forthcoming about the real state of play regarding Uskmouth. Difficult to quantify as such unless SAE themselves see fit to make a formal response. I hope they do.In respect of NRW, from what I've seen, the application itself has been far from being easy. I would say the opposite in fact. It seems to me that NRW want to cover all bases in case of public reprisals. In terms of the Environmental impact on surrounding nature reserves, this is all covered off within the application response. Whilst I don't think there is anything untoward,it would be beneficial to all if SAE could make a formal RNS. By the way, all Natural Resource organisations must comply legally with any applications of this type or other. They can make it extremely challenging that's fair to say but in the end NRW must grant the permit if SAE are fully compliant with all environmental legislation. Well see. | tempesttroy
29/10/2020 15:16 | Anybody able to see the information in the "premium content" part of this article? | bishfund
29/10/2020 13:39 | Hi rivals, many thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. Not good reading this if truth be told. I'll look into it with haste. | tempesttroy
29/10/2020 12:30 | Not a holder here, but just came across this morning's article here FYI: "Simec Atlantis Energy – yet more lack of honesty?, Uskmouth power project in delay... By Peter Brailey | Thursday 29 October 2020 Almost all companies advise investors in a timely manner about material developments to the investment case, but some do not. Of course stock market rules mean all should but I have flagged previously how I consider Simec Atlantis Energy (SAE) has revealed material project delay information via non-RNS routes. Guess what? – the cash-consuming Uskmouth Power station project looks delayed again, why have investors not been updated?… etc" | rivaldo

28/10/2020 11:56 | Nothing on his Twitter feed about selling. He bought this as a long term hold so I think that is just speculation from justtrying1 | greenrichard
28/10/2020 11:39 | He will have lost money then I guess? In my view, it is the wrong time to sell out. We had a more positive update in terms of SAE's response to the questions posed by NRW 2 weeks ago. Everything on-track for a decision on the EP by 4th quarter close. There has to be a justifiable not to mention legal reason for the permit not to be granted which would invariably boost the share price beyond the £0.30p Mark. I'm sure Mcnulty will know this so if he does bail out now particularly considering his losses that would come as a surprise to me but each to their own. For the record I topped up further earlier due to the dip. I have that much faith in the outcome. | tempesttroy

09/10/2020 06:37 | Interesting that Canaccord Genuity took a 5% stake, wonder if they may have some insight into what the Canadian governments plans are regarding suppliers of Turbines etc. | beagrie
08/10/2020 13:51 | Atlantis were part of Canadian tidal power efforts through a government sponsored organisation years ago, iirc, but pulled out through lack of progress and perhaps cost at a time when they were short of cash (as always)! | muckshifter
08/10/2020 11:17 | Let's take discussion of batteries to the IES board. Who are currently discussing the explosion in Liverpool of a grid battery that caused the fire brigade to tell residents to keep their windows closed. There's a lot of problems like this, iirc South Korea had 20 such fires from them last year. | gbjbaanb
08/10/2020 09:36 | SAE share price doing better this week. Hopefully it can continue to gain some lost ground. | tempesttroy
08/10/2020 09:04 | Thanks. Looks promising. My personal view is that a lot of the problems people are (rightly) focused on with lithium ion (recycling, lifespan, cobalt) are all likely to be solvable within the next few years so I personally dont focus on these when it comes to investment decisions. I do think a bigger issue will be scarcity of materials and the time it takes to grow the supply chain - the volume required is mind boggling - so complementary tech like flow batteries make sense to me either way. My main concern is whether they can reduce their prices quickly enough to be competitive and find a corner of the market to operate in. If they do then the sky is the limit. Will watch with interest. | clabburn
07/10/2020 22:40 | I am an investor in IES too! I bought in thinking that they had just about reached the inflexion point between research and settling these things, shame the old CEO spent all the money. Still, I would be buying in now if I wasn't already in, whilst lithium is cheap up front, I do worry about the long term costs of it and the greenness of recycling it at end of life, let alone the cobalt problem. Vanadium has none of these issues, and should be much more cost effective long term. As we know storage is essential to make renewables work, as California's rolling blackouts demonstrate. | gbjbaanb |
