11/4/2002 11:57 | Rosylee, Don't worry about the fish you throw back, that's history concentrate on the present - so forget oml. If it looks that good then you can always enter another trade. Haven't worked out the explorer with Metastock yet - working at it though. Hope your trades are going in your favour. Lex | luthor
11/4/2002 11:13 | Hi Luthor, I have been experimenting with putting wide ranging day with stoch, below the volume & stoch. Just a simple plot of High-low. Been messing also with (hi-low)-close, mov(high-low,10,s); etc etc I exited oml using your vol/stoch, but may have been a little premature. rosy | rosylee
10/4/2002 08:02 | Two shooting stars in a row. i.e. Two poor candles on big(ish) though declining volume. Yesterday's high may have been the top. It is certainly too late to go long. Question is whether or not existing longs should be closed. TP | the player
09/4/2002 17:14 | ARM followers might find this interesting. I think I've got that right. Harvey | luthor
09/4/2002 11:56 | macd35, I mean the first down bar on the histogram. It is currently below the line, but moving up. TP | the player
09/4/2002 11:54 | TP, When you say single downtick on MACD histogram for exit. Do you mean the first tick below midline or one tick below previous peak | macd35
09/4/2002 11:15 | r.d., Parabolic SAR triggered a buy signal on Friday. Last night it was at 255p - bang on the support low. TP | the player
09/4/2002 10:25 | So far, rd, this is not a particularly volatile stock. I shall give ie a week or so if nothing happens I'll close (have to pay interest on long positions with CFDs') Lex | luthor
09/4/2002 10:19 | HNS still looking good, Luthor. | r.dryden
09/4/2002 10:14 | I've been looking at the Parabolic SAR and it seems like as good a way as any to calculate the trailing stop. I wasn't at my computer yesterday so don't know what the stop is for ARM. What I like about the SAR is that it gives you plenty of leeway at the start of a trade then closes up under the price nicely at tops. r.d. | r.dryden
09/4/2002 10:08 | There is a FIB resistance level at 295 and not far away a downward sloping trend line all of which ARM has to negotiate. I was long at 267 and half an hour ago closed at 288. Not sure what it will do next except that I don't think it will go beyond 290 for awhile. Regards Lex. | luthor
09/4/2002 09:08 | Depending on the trading range and the corrective legs of the impulse wave during its passive phase a trailing 10% stoppey should do u no harm. Let the profits run and let the stops take u out! | todayistheday
09/4/2002 09:04 | OK, we now have the situation we all hope for, namely, that a share (ARM) is doing exactly what we thought the chart told us it would do. i.e. Rise! I'm not long, but let us say that I got in on Friday at 267p. Yesterday's price action formed a shooting star. Not pretty, but no need to panic on the strength of one day's price action. Oil, IBM and the Middle East were more than enough to produce that. Question is this........you're in a winning trade. You don't want to give back everything. Price is moving up nicely today. How do the rest of you calculate your trailing stop???? A BIG question! ;-) Elder would say that a single downtick on the MACD Histogram should make you exit. We haven't had one yet. How do the rest of you do it? TP | the player
08/4/2002 12:40 | jimmylaw9, Oh, right, I thought there may be some way to do it right on the ADVFN chart. I still haven't finshed trying out your momentum indicator yet. The trouble with trying to 'automate' signals like these in Metastock is that you can't tell it to be subjective, so when an indicator just misses an overbought stage by a whisker it ignores the signal. Sometimes it's better to just take a look at the chart and to hell with the indicators. T.P. You had me thinking I had been as well :-) r.d. | r.dryden
08/4/2002 10:40 | Luthor, I'm not at home so can't use Metastock but looking at the ADVFN chart of PRU it seems to me you jumped the gun there, but I may have misread it. I have a position on RTD (Retail decisions) and its going nowhere. The position was taken before I read this thread! Thanks for the thought. I am now reviewing my trading plan. I posted a suggestion to include Fib and trend lines on charts on the WISH thread. r.d. | r.dryden
08/4/2002 10:31 | rd, yes, ARM is going to plan, but I also was long on PRU (and that was going to plan) but I was hoping for great things with that one. I took what the market had to offer on that one. Opened a long position on HNS and just opened Long on BAY - this one is hovering close to the 38.2% FIB, not quite oversold on the RSI, but volume candlestick and stoch look promising. At the first sign of trouble I'll jump ship. Hope your positions are going in your favour. Lex | luthor
08/4/2002 10:20 | Luthor, Why a shame, ARM is up 2.8%? r.d. | r.dryden
08/4/2002 10:02 | rd thats even better, thanks rosy | rosylee
08/4/2002 10:02 | rd, Good chart on HNS. It's a shame, but PRU seems to be performing to plan as well. Lex | luthor
08/4/2002 09:28 | Rosylee, Morning The Alert is good for 'holding' one indicator whilst confirming another. So your code could say if the two ma's crossed in the last 5 days AND the rsi rose above 30. That gives you some time to wait for confirmation. So it would be somethig like: If alert(some condition,5) and rsi(14)>30 You can use it in explorer or as a signal in the Expert or even on a system test. Luthor, ARM performing according to plan today, I see. Thanks for the Hanson tip. Do use the Explorer to look for these or they ones you are watching anyway? r.d. | r.dryden
08/4/2002 08:24 | R dryden Does using the Alert() function help? Metastock help gives a more complicated example for the system tester. So here is a simple example using the Explorer. To ask if there has been a crossing of two ma’s in the past five days Alert( Cross( Mov(C,5,E) , Mov(C,34,E) ) ,5) rosylee just bought LMC, but put it down to something I did in a prevous life | rosylee
08/4/2002 06:40 | Hanson (HNS) seems to fulfill all the above criteria for a Long position. An inverted hammer developed on the candlestick chart on Friday. It was not far off the resistance 38.2% Fib. The volume was moderately high and the RSI & Stoch were both oversold. Regards Lex | luthor
07/4/2002 23:22 | rd i cut and paste advfn chart onto word and draw trend lines there. Nothing like your high tech chart of arm i m afraid. | jimmylaw9 |
