It is significant news to consider in the overall picture I think - Trump won't be happy with Russia strengthening associations with Iran and that may even be discussed when Trump meets Putin tomorrow, not that Trump has much/any influence over what Putin chooses to do re Russian/Iranian links in the context of US Iranian sanctions. Also Russia is where we may need to import that 5% of our gas supply from if we can't get it from the NS Rhum field so the US will surely not want that to happen given their recent view on Germany importing gas from Russia.

I think that the fact that the sanctions issue was settled last time with an escrow account is an important consideration and I see no reason why that shouldn't be the fallback position if necessary, after all we are not talking about importing oil from Iran. I'm confident that the deal will go through all things considered.

They sorted it last time which establishes precedent. Precedent is the basis of English law.

Trump and May seemed to get on well in yesterdays tv interview Trump said the special relationship between the UK and the USA is the highest special relationship you can have.

What with Pompeo comments as well I feel the odds are very much in BP and Serica's favour that all will go well and BKR will complete in due course.

Agree Chesnuts,

Trump is a complete idiot.

I think SQZ will appease US OFAC requirements, to get the waiver. By any means necessary.

The Act of Parliament/hydrocarbon regulations are already in place to facilitate what is needed to keep the field operating. This seems to tie up with EU law.

Always good to consider both sides of any arguement. So thanks for pointing out robustly.

Chesnuts,

They have had plenty of chance, not just now but ever since the US started mentioning sanctions.

Everyone has take their positions, and now we see how this plays out.

Tell me how they could sell at the moment, the volume is very low and it would drive the share price down,

I think the weak holders are already out.

Anyone with a significant holding has stayed put. Ie Hardys/Jeffrey Harris. I think that speaks volumes.

If the ownership rights of the IOC arent violated, neither the income which would be held in escrow, then I wouldn't have thought it would be problematic.

Are the EU going to take action against them?

Nothing surprises me with the EU....but I wouldn't put it past them to take the UK Gov to the ECJ..???? for not following the EU policy line..??

Sawney.

I agree, I think escrow is the way to go.

As I posted earlier this was covered by UK law, acted upon in 2013.

Does it matter what the EU say?

All the european companies are pulling out of Iran regardless.

Are the EU going to take action against them?

Re affecting National Security - especially as we might have to get that 5% from the Russians if lost and Trump has just been lecturing the Germans on NOT doing that!

Replying to a June 4 letter from the European powers, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote that the Trump administration would not agree to wide-ranging protections for European companies operating in Iran and instead would grant only limited exceptions based on national security or humanitarian grounds, the officials said

So BKR not "in Iran" and at a pinch, could be regarded as effecting "national security" re 5% + of UK gas.

...but the article implies that the U.S. wants to impose maximum financial pressure so only an escrow account could work. Trouble is, the EU doesn't agree with sanctions...so could insist that the IOC are paid..????
