28/7/2021 09:20 | The Bezos effect on space investment: The majority of capital has historically been funneled to companies focused on technology to use on Earth, including satellite communications and imagery, Earth monitoring and geospatial analytics. However, increasing ambitions to explore past our home planet are fueling what’s expected to be a vibrant “space-for-spa The new interest could benefit companies like LeoLabs, which has radar sites in Alaska, Texas, New Zealand and Costa Rica that track objects in orbit from satellites to tiny debris, helping to prevent collisions. The startup raised $65 million in funding in June led by Insight Partners and Velvet Sea Ventures. These advancements are just the beginning, according to Vaswani, citing the possibility of commercial space stations, space debris removal services and in-space manufacturing emerging by 2035 as launch costs become cheaper. | jonwig
27/7/2021 13:38 | Thank you Jonwig, your post comes at a prescient time. I tend to jump in to an investment after sensible research,so as not to miss the boat then do much more detail . I must confess there are a couple of things I am trying to come to terms with. These are personal choices, nothing to do with the strength of the investment itself. I prefer to keep away from military investments and I have heard some critics of the satellites over whelming the night sky. Before anyone jumps down my throat,I reiterate that from the financial point of view,I still believe these have potential. This is the next big frontier. If I can convince myself that the data investment, bamboo and so on and the more ethical investments there, in their portfolio, are what I am concerned with then I'll see. Still unsure . This is though a very exciting trust and whatever I do I wish you well. | hazl
27/7/2021 07:40 | Portfolio Companies - BAMBOO SYSTEMS Cambridge, UK-based provider of an ARM server architecture designed to power sustainable data centers. "Bamboo Systems is the Arm server company using embedded systems methodologies to deliver high throughput computing using a fraction of the energy and space of traditional servers" Three funding rounds, led by Seraphim Capital with The Future Fund (gov't loans) also participating. Thanks to hazl for highlighting this one. Its chief merit appears to be in helping data centers to achieve higher energy density and therefore progress to net-zero. I'm struggling to link data centers with "space", but data centers are certainly a hot investment theme at present (DGI9, CORD), and this could be a highlysuccessful company. The largest component of SSIT's stable. | jonwig

23/7/2021 07:13 | Portfolio Companies - EDGYBEES. Commonly used solutions for aerial video augmentation often fall short of the accuracy and speed required for lifesaving missions. Existing solutions typically apply aircraft telemetries to place geographical data over live video streams, resulting in inaccurate or delayed geographical positioning information that can lead to dire consequences in emergency situations. Our AI-powered solution utilizes satellite-generated geographical positioning imagery, coupled with computer vision and machine learning algorithms, to deliver visually augmented video with the highest levels of precision and speed. US-based (MD), founded 2017. Series A funding, Feb 2021 (included Seraphim): Parnership with Carbyne announced last week: $950m contract with US air force announced last October: Personally, I'd rate this as an excellent investment for SSIT. | jonwig

So intend to look more specifically at some in out trust again next. Good to see the Government support though which is of course relevant in many ways. 'Monitoring and tackling climate change and tracking endangered wildlife are among the exciting features.' 'UK companies have received nearly £15 million from the UK Space Agency, through the European Space Agency’s Pioneer Partnership Programme, to develop the trio of satellites due to lift off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Lacuna Space, based at the Harwell Space Cluster in Oxfordshire, is revolutionising the cost and simplicity of connecting sensors to the internet, reaching every corner on Earth using small satellites to support the Internet of Things.' | hazl

22/7/2021 12:24 | Andy Green President of UKspace and Co- chair of the Space Leadership Council FOREWORD 3 Dr David Parker CEO, UK Space Agency Space is an extraordinary and exciting business. It impacts virtually all aspects of our lives, in an unobtrusive but crucial way. The UK space sector punches above its weight globally and continues to grow much faster than the UK economy. Space is a high growth, high productivity sector where targeted government investment generates further industrial investment and creates highly skilled jobs. It is a key enabler that is critical for our national economy. It has been my privilege to lead the Space Innovation and Growth Strategy team since 2009. At that time we set an ambitious target - to increase the UK share of the global space economy from 6% to 10% by 2030. In a fiercely competitive international marketplace we knew this would be no easy task. I’m therefore delighted that this progress report shows we are firmly on track. The evidence from the Case for Space 2015 is clear. Industry, government, and academia working together against a clear agenda delivers. This report highlights achievements to date and priorities for the next stage of our journey. | hazl
