Hi all,

My mate Peter @Conkers3 and myself did a Twin Petes Investing Podcast a few days ago and part of our discussion covers SMT. We also chatted about loads of other Stocks and as always a fair bit of general Portfolio Management educational stuff. Anyway, if you use Apple, Audioboom, Overcast or Spotify you can find it under the 'Conkers Corner' Channel (you want TPI Podcast 26) and you can find it on Soundcloud at the link below.

I hope you enjoy it and find it useful,

Cheers, WD

Baillie Gifford US Growth (LSE:USA) (stock market ticker: USA) was the overall winner in the first half of 2020, with total returns of 49% in the six months to Monday this week from this star of the North America sector. This trust, with total assets of £547 million, currently trades at a 6% premium to net asset value (NAV).

BH Macro (LSE:BHMU) the Brevan Howard US $ hedge fund was only a whisker behind with total returns of 48%, closely followed by Pacific Horizon (LSE:PHI) - another Baillie Gifford trust - in the Pacific sector with 47%. BHMU currently trades at a 14% discount to NAV while PHI is priced at a 5% discount.

Scottish Mortgage (LSE:SMT), yet another tech-heavy Baillie Gifford giant, ranked fourth in the half-year with 38%

Tesla looks like a flying start today judging by the figures out from them. Got to be some nervous CEOs of other car manufacturers.

Also PHI - Pacific Horizon Investment Trust has had a great run - equalling the performance of ScoMo this year

PHI started the year at 340p and is now 485p. Being PLUS 42.5%

Whereas ScoMo started the year at 580p and is now 825p which is also PLUS 42.5%

Only thing of concern for me is size of SMTs main holdings in Amazon and especially Tesla where I am less convinced. But I let my holding run and hope the managers know what the6 are doing as you can't argue with its track record. I consider Monks a steadier less tech heavy bet. Been well worth holding both.

Greatpepe,

Hold this in my SIPP and EWI in my ISA. See these as long term Core holdings and just add as when. More a case of keeping an eye on it but not much to add in terms of BB chat.

Would say the recent holdings in VTOL aircraft look interesting and just keep me researching more than talking.

As an aside did post this on LSE BB last week.

CNBC have been showcasing their Disruptor 50 and I noticed some of the companies covered were held by Scottish Mortgage. (Anyway sent an email to the BG to ask if they would elaborate on some of the private companies they hold and what they see in them @ the AGM)

Hello and thank you for your replies.
They have had a great run since i bought in early April.
Has so much unknown in them but happy to hold at the moment too, probably for the very long term.
It just surprises me how few posts there are here assume not a big holding stock for advfn....especially after the continual rise.
But i suppose its a slow burner so understand why punters aren't too excited about it.

Hold these and still adding, although not recently.

Think you have to look beyond the obvious Amazon, Tesla and illumina and consider the 30% in private companies. How do you begin to say SpaceX is lofty in price let alone some of the other privately held companies. The potential is there, for me at least. Hence happy to hold and add where dips come in.

Very happy, been a great ride , great cos , and still hold , but it's been such an obvious gravy train one does worry how much more the market can price into these high tech growth plays over the short term.

ScoMo has today sailed straight through 800p to 805p+.

That's why last week's irrational market wobble and sudden fall for ScoMo to 710p proved to be a "Thank you, Mr. Market" moment.

A very interesting stock to look at. Pertinent to the major anticipated growth of listings of mega-tech in HK and growing shift away from NASDAQ:-

HONG KONG EXCHANGES AND CLEARING LIMITED.

Ticker: 0388.HK

The stock has just hit HK$300 being a NEW ALL-TIME-HIGH.

It would not surprise me if this stock has significantly further northwards to travel this year.

New ALL-TIME-HIGH again for ScoMo at 770p.

Reading Chase Purdy's brand-new book , Billion Dollar Burger, where are ScoMo's unlisted investments in this fascinating and expanding cultured-meat/cell-based-meat space?
