Just bought a small holding in this as an 'alternative investment' type share. Latest results look pretty solid. Hopefully will be a nice little long-term tuck-away. Maybe the Mail on Sunday will revisit its previous recommendation earlier this year and help give the price a little nudge up (and hopefully not down soon afterwards as happened last time!).

Nope I was wrong there , it was a director`s purchase this morning.

"The Company announces that it was informed today that on 5 September 2014 Charles Sebag-Montefiore, non-executive director, purchased 10,000 ordinary shares in the capital of the Company at a price of £0.81 per share."

Market report..

"..Rare books-to-fine art retailer Scholium (SCHO:AIM) edged 1p higher to 81p on an annual meeting update which makes for pleasing reading. Having invested float proceeds to build high quality stock levels, Scholium sees a strong second half ahead and says its Shapero Rare Books business should complete ‘a number of material deals’ this month"

Got it now...

Scholium bookmarked

Patient investors should take a closer look at rare books-to-fine art retailer Scholium (SCHO:AIM). Rising demand from well-heeled collectors and investment in stock to drive growth bode well for future earnings.

Buoyed by £8 million raised at its flotation Scholium has been investing in attractive new stock including a portfolio by Andy Warhol. Net assets of £10.8 million as of 31 March exceed the present £10 million market cap.

Guided by chief executive officer Philip Blackwell, a member of the Blackwell family whose roots in publishing and book selling go back to 1879, Scholium deals in rare and antiquarian books and works on paper ranging from historical maps to artistic prints. These are sold to high net worth individuals and institutions from premises in Mayfair as well as international fine art fairs.
Scholium is primed to profit in a growing, global market for rarities.

Competition in selling pricey rare and antiquarian books is limited, gross margins attractive at 40% and operational gearing means sales gains will drop swiftly to the bottom line. Maiden full-year results showed a loss after one-off IPO (initial public offering) and other expenses.

However, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew 88% to £610,000 on sales 13.4% ahead at £6.7 million. Investors are also being treated to a maiden 1p dividend.

You can buy at sub 83p now and there`s plenty available. Next couple of sells will take this fella sub 80p on the bid.

I`m sitting on my hands for the time being.

Afternoon blueliner , it`s a strange one , I`m looking for a position as it looks a good long term bet in a niche business.

Just waiting for it to stabilise , but again today just a couple of 10k sells and it`s at a new low.

80p - 85p at present.

Looks like the 23k @ 84.5p could well be a buy

edit:

Looking at that trade again , more likely a sell earlier in the day when the quote was 84p - 87p - would explain the early price drop.

For me what's the point of selling, I took a long term punt, can't use any tax losses as it's in stock ISA. share price will settle eventually, it's not some dodgy aim co either. More like a blue blooded one.
