04/8/2021 07:33 | The Morrisons supermarket chain might have to break up if a planned £6.3billion takeover deal goes through. A sale of Morrisons to private equity owners could trigger a break-up of the supermarket chain, analysts in the City have warned. Analysts at Bernstein said they “struggle to see” how Morrisons’ assets would not be stripped if the takeover proceeds at the current or a higher offer price. City analysts Bernstein said the new owners would need to sell off part of the supermarket to reclaim some cash. Bernstein said buyers would struggle to make a profit "without significant asset sales”. | loganair

04/8/2021 00:55 | I know they recently closed one of their big depots just outside London to save money. Perhaps the other surrounding depots can't cope with the extra workload. Maybe someone on here can explain exactly what is going on with the Sainsbury's distribution network. | spob

Mere UK business development manager Aleksandr Chkalov told The Grocer: “On 14 August we will be glad to present our new retail model: a real hard discounter, with no shelves, no service, no convenience, just the lowest prices.” It will have up to 1,200 products and sell brands such as Cusheen toilet paper, Maxsonic batteries, Reach sanitising wipes and Warrior energy drinks. | loganair

28/7/2021 10:33 | Not at mine. Fully stocked with everything. But their inventory management seems much tighter which is a big positive from a management/financial control/shareholder perspective and means there is much less waste with items going past their dates. Also, they appear to be adopting many aspects of the winning ALDI/LIDL formula which is to offer fewer choices of the same products. Pulling out of wholesale is also a part of their re-focusing. Not surprised that the share price has repeatedly been hitting two year highs in the past few days. Looking for an imminent 300p. ALL IMO. DYOR. QP | quepassa
