I couldn't believe what a security guard at my local Sainsbury's said to me this morning.

There are gangs coming in to the store stealing £1000's of worth of goods at a time, often booze, the high end booze which they can then sell on. Even though the local store has given the local police photo's of these individuals and their names the police are doing nothing, absolutely zero about it.

It's not the single one off shop lifter, it's gangs of 5, 10, 15, 20 people at a time going in to do a massive stealing operation, stealing several thousands of pounds worth at a time.

I was also chatting with the manager of my local Pound stretcher store and she said she sees at least 5 instances of shoplifting everyday in her store and on most days there are now 20+ instances of shop lifting in her small store and there is nothing she can do about it and nothing the police will do about it.

Sales growth has been running at less than inflation, therefore Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and Morrison have all been selling less stuff.

I'm aure alot of this 'sales growth' for any retailer is just price rises. I doubt anyone actually sold more stuff over the last two years, unless they took some market share from somewhere?

My olive oil has nearly doubled in price over the last two years. My frozen chips are up around 70%. My cakes are up 40%.

I'm sure I read somewhere that LIDL are struggling with 'debt' from higher interest rates?

Inflation is good for Gov plc, more Vat revenue, more fiscal drag but will likely struggle to borrow much more and hence QE came in during Covid debacle, and is likely on QE standby for a potential serious gilts sell off, which will lead to more inflation.

Hey Sainsbury's

Why not buy Currys ?

You can stick a small currys in the corner of every supermarket

Then close all of the Currys stores, and kill that brand off good and proper

Marks & Spencer is poised to overtake Waitrose as it wins over growing numbers of middle class shoppers according to Nielsen as both are now neck and neck market share.

Industry experts said M&S was likely to stretch ahead of its rival for the first time this year as it opens more food stores and continues to attract customers.

This would be another setback for the John Lewis Partnership, which owns Waitrose and the department store, and its outgoing chairman Sharon White.

Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets, at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: ‘M&S food halls in high footfall areas, offering click and collect services for clothing and homewares, offer highly valued convenience for its growing number of customers.

‘If it can hang onto these new customers, it has a greater chance of overtaking its rival in the months to come.’

Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at broker AJ Bell, said John Lewis ‘seems to have lost its swagger with the nation’.

Supermarket shoppers are flocking to Lidl and M&S like never before this year, with both retailers named the UK’s fastest growing supermarkets.

For Lidl, a brand known for affordable deals and low prices, sales jumped 13.2% in the last 12 weeks while M&S grew 11.6%.

Naturally inflation has come down, look at the price of petrol and such like really brings the inflation rate down, however in reality grocery inflation is still running at closer to 10%.

Many things seem to have gone up by at least 50% since the start of the pandemic (ok I know that's 4 years now). Rishi may be bragging about inflation being down to 4% now but that's on top of the horrendous price rises we have already seen!

They charge the same price for 10 medium eggs, which used to be 15 eggs. A cut in eggs for the same price as 15.

My local egg seller near a garden centre a year ago charged £2.50. Now it is £3.50, for 12 so they have gone up everywhere.

Sainsbury's CEO imaginative thinking....

1. Lets do the same with Nectar as Tesco does with their Clubcard.

2. More automation and AI, less staff.

3. Shut more Argos and bring them in store - the last 5 times I've been in my local Sainsbury's there hasn't been a single customer in the Argos area.

4. Share buy backs which tend mainly to be beneficial to the directors and the bankers who get massive fees for conducting the share buy backs.

Well, I think Tesco have done worse in the past than the Argos purchase.

How could a Tesco shareholder forget the restaurant chain they purchased!
