I think you"re behind the times spob - even if people actually looked at the catalogue, they would then just search for it on amazon or elsewhere online to check the price and buy it cheaper. The problem with the catalogue is that the prices were out of date as soon as it was printed, there was limited info on the item and there were no reviews (real or fake).

I think the more genuine Argos stores that close, the more the Argos brand dies.

Sainsbury's directors can't see it.

They are just thinking about saving rents.

spob, good luck with that one.

I never rated that acquisition.

The Argos unit near me is still empty and still clocking up rent for Sainsbury.

I guess it took Lloyds Pharmacy 7 years to work out why Sainsbury's sold their pharmacy operation in the first place.

LOL

LloydsPharmacy to axe outlets within Sainsbury’s supermarkets:

LloydsPharmacy has said it will pull out of its 237 pharmacy sites within Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

The pharmacy chain said it has cut the services following a strategic review “in response to changing market conditions”.

LloydsPharmacy added that it is “exploring options” for each branch individual and will confirm exact closure plans on a “branch-by-branch” basis but expects to complete the process over the course of 2023.

The decision comes seven years after LloydsPharmacy first snapped up the pharmacies from the retailer for £125 million.

Lloyds pharmacy pulling out.

I wonder what the deal was with Sainsbury's. Maybe the rent Sainsbury’s was charging them was too high ?

Anyone have details ?

(Alliance News) - J Sainsbury PLC's Argos Ltd has announced plans to close all its stores in the Republic of Ireland by this summer, a move that will see hundreds of jobs axed.

The company employs around 580 people in 34 stores in the Republic of Ireland. The hours worked by staff in Ireland equate to 330 full-time roles.

Argos said it arrived at the decision to leave Ireland following a long period of "careful consideration" and a "thorough review" of its business and operations in the country.

The company said it concluded the investment required to develop and modernise the Irish part of its business was "not viable", and that the money would be better invested in other parts of its business.

UK inflation: how everyday items and services shot up in price

Basics such as eggs, bread and drinks are in a basket of items that rose at over twice December’s 10.5% inflation rate.

Richard Partington

The UK’s inflation rate fell for a second month in December, dropping to 10.5%. But households remain under pressure as prices continue to rise for a wide range of goods and services.

Despite the fall in the headline rate, food and non-alcoholic drinks jumped by a collective 16.8%, the fastest annual rate of increase since 1977. Price rises for restaurant meals and overnight stays in hotels also accelerated.

Basic groceries up by 30% as supermarket trust plummets

Consumers reliant on supermarkets’ budget ranges bore the brunt of food price inflation in the run-up to Christmas, with increases far outstripping those for luxury own-label and premium brands, according to a survey.

The price of budget items rose 20.3% on average in December, compared with the same month a year before, according to research from the consumer group Which?, while supermarkets’ luxury ranges rose 12.6% and the price of branded items went up 12.5%.

Overall food price inflation averaged 13.3% in December, according to the British Retail Consortium’s latest figures.

However, price hikes for grocery staples including butter and spreads, milk and cheese were much bigger, according to the Which? survey – up 29%, 26% and 22% respectively, across all supermarket chains.

I just hope it doesn't result in more pickers blocking up the aisles for the JE brigade, many of whom who are too lazy to get up off their bottoms and buy their own junk food in person.
