I saw this at an Asda at 6am this morning. And I thought how the hell is anyone going to get into that store for food shopping.

Entrance was totally blocked by a very very very very very long fuel queue. Hundreds of cars blocking both the store and local road junctions.

There are many Sainsburys stores that have been cleverly designed in such a way that you have to go past the petrol station in order to get in or out of the store.

I’m guessing that clever design must be causing some major disruption to those stores right now, in regard to customers wanting to do their food shopping.

When they have any fuel that is.

as aldi do about £15m revenue per store, this should result in £1.5bn taken in market share in the next 2 years. lidl also expect to open 140 stores by the end of 2023. they do about £10m revenue a store, so that should take a further £1.4bn. i wouldnt be surprised if they take market share further still, as inflation is taking off which has historically driven people to the discounters.

Aldi will create 2,000 jobs and open another 100 stores across the UK as part of a £1.3bn plan to take a larger share of the British grocery market.

Aldi said it would also use the cash to expand its distribution centres, including a new 1.3m sq ft warehouse in Leicestershire, and trial a new checkout-free store in Greenwich in London, where it will use cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence to scan items and charge shoppers.

The company also released its annual results, revealing a 10.2% rise in sales in UK and Ireland to £13.5bn in the year to December 31.

Pre-tax profits fell 2.5% to £264.8m, hit by the cost of responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and keeping down food prices. Operating profit fell 1.2% to £287.7m.

This afternoon I noticed almost everyone coming out of my local supermarket had large packs of toilet rolls stuffed in their trollies. I would have thought these people would still be wading through all the massive amounts of bog roll they bought last Spring.

Local petrol station still operating normally, no more than usual number of cars at the pumps and buying similar amount of fuel as usual.

No need if everyone just buys as they need. Alas, we have millions of peeps with IQ's that are a bit challenged.

How long before the government wakes up and makes ALL petrol stations impose a £20 to £30 limit with exemptions for key workers obviously.

That's the only way things will get back to normal.

I said all petrol filling stations would be dry by Monday

I was wrong

All the nearest ones to me are dry now.

There are people queuing at some stations near me. But there is no fuel. They are waiting for the next tanker delivery.

My local Tesco empty. Independant on the way home empty.Have to go to Sheffield tomorrow. I'm guessing the Motorway ones will be ok since their prices are so obscene, next to nobody uses them lol.

If everyone fills their tanks rather than just buying what they need, that is enough extra demand to empty every filling station in the country.

The system can only cope with normal demand.

News media spreading their usual fear which is creating panic.

My mum has just phoned saying her local supermarket petrol station has just run out of petrol as there has been massive queues of cars there all day filling up and also her local Waitrose has just run out of toilet paper and people are now buying kitchen rolls instead to use as toilet paper.

Don't these people realise there is plenty of stock to go round, however if people start buying several years supply of a product at the same time it doesn't take many people much time to empty the shelves.

Last night at my local petrol station only 3 of the 7 pumps had people refueling.

I am just not experiencing or recognising what we're being shown on the TV news when it comes to supermarkets, shelves being empty, queuing for petrol etc as there's absolutely none of this where I am.

So Sky news and BBC are showing pictures of people queuing for petrol every 2 minutes.

This guarantees all filling stations will be dry by Monday. Lol

Never use those things anyway. If they're not broken, then there is usually a queue for them.

Just carry a foot pump in the boot.

Sainsbury's petrol stations are now charging 30p for air for tyres when it use to be free. More and more, things that use to be full service are now charging for each separate item.

The price of the basic item/service is kept the same or slightly reduced so seems like the whole service has got cheaper when in fact once one adds all the extra's in that use to come for free with the full service then actually the whole thing has got a lot more expensive - airlines are a prime example of this.

I don't know why I keep hearing on the news about lack of food in the supermarkets and empty shelves?

None of the supermarkets with in 15 miles of me have empty shelves, plenty of fruit and veg no difference from what they were 2,3 or 4 years ago.

My local Tesco is still having 2 big delivery lorries a day, takes the whole morning to off load them both and the shelves are as full as they've always been. Also no problem with my local M&S food hall.

Slowly starting to get easier to do my grocery shopping in store

the numer of trolley dollies, getting in the way, is on the decline

as i said before

the total market share taken by online grocery shopping, will never surpass the peak seen in 2020

One recalls the recent story dated 28th August from Sky News about "Sainsbury's being in talks to offload banking arm to private equity group Centerbridge"

Ominous silence.

ALL IMO. DYOR.
