20/11/2007 21:44 | freddie63, thanks for your post. Any others out there have views on Sage vs Microsoft battle? Please post | botwoman
20/11/2007 20:42 | Maddox, Sage isn't exactly a bug free product either. Since the DOS version they have steadily improved and introduced /ironed out bugs. Sage Line50 2007 was a nightmare with 7 major updates and probably did them the most harm in the SMB. They have released Line 50 2008 saying it had been tested more than any other (heard that somewhere before?). Guess what.... Also, remember that without MS there probably wouldn't be a SAGE in the FTSE 100 as well as many others out there. I can't see anyone out there using DOS anymore. They HAD to go with the flow and have built up a solid product and market share. I still think it would be very hard for MS or anybody else to change a company's Sage infrastructure. Although MS are offering the option to import data from Sage V11 or V12, I can only see this appealing to the smaller firm who understands the accounting procedures without the need for a hotline. The worry is more with the other MS products and if they dip into Sage's market share. The Sage acquisitions and exposure in the US will cause a lot of pressure here though IMHO. Good luck all.. | freddie63
20/11/2007 15:13 | maddox, thanks for the excellent post what about MSFTs strategy of giving away the basic version for free? looks devised to encourage new companies to go for the zero cost option, kill off sage and force them to upgrade in medium term. is it not "dumping"? | botwoman
20/11/2007 14:47 | Botwoman, Buying a bug-ridden MS product is comparable with buying Shareware (and that's probably a dis-service to Shareware) particularly in the level of support that you get. Everyone I know hates MS products - the enforced upgrades that you are subject to and unnecessary changes to the GUI and functionality. No one in their right mind would opt for one against a focussed boutique product with superior support. Their products are MS-centric not end-user focussed. You only have to look at what is happening with Vista - I know people that have spent days trying to get their peripherals to work with it. Lets be frank - if it wasn't for the defacto monopoly they have through their operating system, PC maufacturer/distribu Business Users are not that price sensitive - the price differential is not significant to the bottom-line. The available book-keeping staff are Sage trained and experienced, the auditors and accountants use it, and the support is high quality and accessable. Price is not the issue. Anyone want to take issue with me? Regards, Maddox | maddox

19/11/2007 21:30 | i've stepped back because apparently MS is dumping the basic version of its Office Accounting 2008 on UK market for free, and the enhanced version for just £150, about half price of sage products | botwoman

KCS is one of the UK's award-winning suppliers of personnel, payroll and time & attendance solutions. 28/10/2007 12:32 | Jeremy Batstone-Carr at stockbroker Charles Stanley highlights drink companies like SAB Miller and Diageo, technology firms such as Autonomy and Sage and telecoms giant Vodafone. They should also get a boost if the pound weakens as rates fall, because their international profits will be worth more in sterling. Five ways to beat a rocky market | lyntwyn
11/10/2007 11:41 | Sage said it expects full-year results to be in line with market consensus forecasts at 1.158 bln stg, up from 0.892 bln last time. In reaction to the news, Landsbanki noted that once again the concern that Sage is losing market share to Microsoft and to a lesser extent to Intuit will resurface. The broker reiterated its 'hold' rating on Sage and favours LogicaCMG at present. | h4rsh2
11/10/2007 11:15 | Can only put todays slide down to US underperformance and possibly directors who have recently left, selling stock. Quite a batch of fairly large selling orders to clear, so until they are out of the way, the price may remain subdude. | w.bramley
