20/1/2015 12:36 | spent some time reviewing basic economic market history this weekend The key relationship for stock market growth is the price of commodities which move inversely to the price of bonds and when bonds are doing well then the stock market tends to perform in line with bonds. Currently many key commodities; oil, copper, aluminium, iron and a number of others are at the lowest they've been for many years. As a direct result of this inflation and hence interest rates should remain low. At some point commodities will rise that's inevitable, inflation will arrive and interest rates will go up. Bond prices will fall in order to secure competitive yields with interest rates, when this happens the markets will retreat. We were in limbo most of last year as there was much uncertainly around commodities, interest rates etc. The POO has defined the direction we are now heading in my view. I don't see a recovery in the POO above 60$ a barrel for some years. Indeed i figure the POO over the last few years has been out of sync with normal growth. Remember China was growing at 15% per annum that's unsustainable, it's now 7% which is still significant. i also spent some time at the weekend looking at the WTI oil price chart and from a TA perspective you could argue that the current price is around what you'd have expected on the longer term trend analysis from 1999 to today. The sharp rise in POO from 2005 onwards looks to have been a little unprecendented and particularly the period 2007 to 2009. The financial crisis brought POO back down to earth again but it then rose again at quite a steep rate later in 2009 to 2011 and was pretty much range bound then until the recent fall. I figure companies with significant exposure to oil based products and energy useage are going to be significantly undervalued in the market at present. Currently buying here and BPI too. Continuing to look for other opportunities. aimho woody | woodcutter

13/1/2015 16:33 | jeffian. One possiblity is that AXA sold all their rights in the market. That would explain their number of shares after the rights issue being the same as before. Also, if they had sold all of their rights, none would have gone directly to the underwriters. | ed 123

12/1/2015 17:31 | Thank you, Woody, I was being dozy! They even said the reason in the RNS - "An event changing the breakdown of voting rights X " Their shareholding before and after the event remains the same, so they obviously didn't take up the Rights. Having said that, how does that tie in with the results of the RI saying that 98% had been taken up leaving around 1.4m shares to be placed by the underwriters, when AXA were entitled to around 7.5m new shares? | jeffian
12/1/2015 16:56 | i would have thought current holdings announcements are more than likely as a result of the rights issue rather than strategic buying or selling. Anyway if there's a strong break through 540p above the bollinger 20 day SMA i will consider adding. All the indicators momentum, trending and oversold are moving in a postive direction. free stock charts from uk.advfn.com woody | woodcutter |
