OPEC won't cut, this is their chance to finish off US shale companies, a lot can't service their debt with WTI below $48.A lot of debt due this summer. Finish those boys off who are weak, less oil being produced, then higher price, back to $60 end of year. In my opinion.

What does a rate cut to dollar do to oil price typically? Up or down?

Hopefully OPEC act but you just never know with Russia

Just out - Fed cuts benchmark rate 50 BPS.

US markets swing from negative to 1.3% up in an instant.

Now we need OPEC+ to follow up on Friday with meaningful output cuts.

Let's get Brent back to $65, RDSB back to £26 and get set for the summer ahead.

Fardels Bear - "What economic downturn?"

Well I was really making the point that oil prices should fluctuate according to demand, and supply, but to believe that Shell's and BP's SPs have been declining since last summer because of factors other than economic, such as "media fuelled panic" surprises me.

I know that Greta has been pretty vocal lately, but I doubt that's the reason; nor would I put it down to 'those in the know' getting a whiff of the virus last summer. No, I reckon it's economic 'growth', which is pretty rubbish outside of China.

Now what has caused that, if one believes that there's been an economic downturn, is something else.

Key Points

The Dow was resurgent on Monday, soaring 5.1% to post its largest daily percentage gain since March 2009, on the back of investor hopes for policy action by the U.S. Federal Reserve and other central banks around the world.

Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe,” Columbia Threadneedle EMEA Head of U.S. Equities Nadia Grant said that despite the volatility, her team had not yet seen enough to make any strategic plays on cheaper stocks.

What economic downturn?I see nothing more than media-fuelled panic. Don't let them think they have the power to cause an actual economic meltdown (their favourite headline after Princess Di emerges from shower) and there will be hell to pay.

Not sure that I agree with OPEC manipulating the poo: in times of economic downturn, surely a lower poo is better for economies (except OPEC and Russia, maybe). Kinda goes against economics, dunnit?

Howls of protest from oil investors, lol. Me, I'm holding for now, but tempted to add...hmm.

Shell EMV technology

HOUSTON — Shell Oil Co. reached the milestone of equipping more than 1,000 of its retail sites with outdoor EMV technology designed to reduce fraud.

The benchmark comes months ahead of the Oct. 1 deadline, after which fuel dispenser fraud liability shifts to retailers.

"Shell is fully committed to providing its wholesalers with the information and resources they need to have their Shell-branded sites EMV hardware and software ready in advance of the liability shift date," the company said in a released statement. "Our top priority is to deliver programs and technology that lead to better customer experiences."

Resources and tools offered to Shell wholesalers include:

EMV equipment purchase programs with Gilbarco, Wayne Fueling Systems, Verifone and Cybera, as well as additional support throughout the transition process;
Multiple EMV technology workshops and webcasts that guide wholesalers, their staff and dealers through the end-to-end readiness and deployment process;
Direct EMV engagements with Shell wholesalers hosted by company staff at industry events and sales meetings across the country; and
Free EMV point-of-purchase signage kits for every Shell retail site that activates the technology in order to promote awareness about the security benefits of chip card technology with consumers.

In advance of the liability shift, EMV-compliant software is also available to more than 80 percent of the Shell network.

Additionally, the company launched its EMV Deploy Center, a mobile-friendly online tool that assists with the deployment process.

Based in Houston, Shell is an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell plc, a global group of energy and petrochemical companies with operations in more than 70 countries. In the U.S., Shell operates in 50 states.
