I say get rid of all the royals. They are rich enough already. Some people will loose their home and livelihood because of covid 19 and we have people living in palaces because their ancestors won a battle or bumped off the competition. The winners of 1066 still own half the land in England because they were on Williams side lol

tfergi, keep in mind the sheer amount of stimulus involved. Will it be enough to hold back the tsunami of bad news in Q2 is a wait and see.

You mean it's ignorant, irresponsible and stupid.

The major US manufacturer has already issued a stern statement saying that their products should not be ingested in any way under any circumstances.

Trump is not fit for purpose - he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the WH.

TfL telling the BBC that they will furlough 7,000 from next week. This news may be of interest to some posters on here, who rely on the tube/buses to get around.

'Lots of self employed do not declare their full earnings for tax'

Really?!

tfrgi I think we are seeing a wall of liquidity. It pumps asset prices short term (or supports them only which is even worse considering the trillions being spent). But liquidity in asset prices does nothing to solve a demand and debt crisis. It is another can kicking exercise, but this could be the last kick. ALL governments are now in an unsustainable debt trajectory so what next?

finally I cannot believe the mkt is ignoring what our new chancellor said. All this money will have to be paid back so taxes will rise!!!

Dope I agree with you, I do not see how the outlook for companies and share prices can be anything but bearish. However the markets just seem to be shrugging everything off. Oil companies are up, Unilever have refused to give any sort of guidance because they can't and markets hate uncertainty- but the share price held today. The US reports record unemployment week after week - worse than the financial crisis and the indexes move up. Maybe the governments aid packages are going to hold the markets up. Or maybe this is all still the part of the previous normal bear market cycles where abig rise comes after the initial fall before it makes its way down agai

Of note with the everything will be back to normal brigade. Lots of self employed do not declare their full earnings for tax, as such they will not be getting anything like the same money as before, and will take a long time to recover their earnings as their debts build up. Recovery will be slow as gov't money is not going to cover a lot of lost incomes in the country.

And of course company balance sheets will all be loaded with more debt, which will inhibit further growth

The flash PMIs are just out and give a flavour of what is to come.

Manufacturing down at 36.9, Services even worse at 27 and the Composite is at 27.4.

As Trump is well aware, "It's the economy, stupid".
