Sainsbury's has said sales of clothes, summer food and paddling pools helped speed up growth in the past few months.

The UK's second biggest supermarket chain reported that like-for-like sales excluding fuel - which strip out the impact of new stores - grew by 2.3%.

Chief executive Mike Coupe said the warm weather helped to grow sales in its clothing and merchandise unit.

Demand for deals on British strawberries and its summer eating range also boosted grocery sales.
