Harland & Wolff shipyards, which are involved in preparing the new port project in the Falkland Islands, "continue completely unaffected", despite British press reports referring to "financial difficulties".The preferred bidder to prepare the new port project in the Falklands has been in talks with the UK government for a credit guarantee, to help refinance the shipyard in Northern IrelandThe UK newspaper, " Daily Telegraph, " this week reported that company officials warned officials that in the "worst case scenario," failure to secure the credit guarantee will lead to job losses and the need to cut back and reconsider some projects, such as the one regarding the Falkland Islands. But a Harland & Wolff spokesperson consulted by the Falkland Islands weekly Penguin News said that "discussions with the UK government regarding the institute dealing with Export Finance and Export Development Guarantees (UKEF and EDG) ), continue and are positive""Business continues as usual, and continues in all our plants, just as great progress is being made in fulfilling contracts.""Each of the shipyards is busy with manufacturing jobs, and each of them is crucial to the delivery and fulfillment of the FSS Program, and our strategy of working simultaneously with five markets and six services."The spokesman for the shipyards, once the flagship of British technology in manufacturing large packet ships such as the Titanic and its twins Olympic and Brittanic at the beginning of the 20th century, added that "we are not going to comment on speculation." When asked to comment on the current status of the new port project, a statement from the Falklands Government "claimed to be aware of the recent publicity regarding Harland & Wolff, and the uncertainty over UK Government funding. ""This is in no way linked to the Falklands Government project. FIG officials are closely monitoring developments and the impact of the UK general election and period on decisions that may affect our main bidder. In fact the FIG is not under contract with Harland & Woff at the moment so there are no financial risks. All other aspects of the port replacement project...remain as planned.".

Next June 5 will be the big day for the Falkland Islands. As is the case with the Legislatures of all democratic countries, the fundamental law will be announced, the budget for the year that begins to take effect on June 30 for the following twelve months. It is also the date on which the governor of the Islands, as head of state and dressed in his gala uniform, will conduct what is known as the "state of the nation", in which a review of the completed exercise is made and anticipations works and projects for which one begins. For this next exercise the planets seem to have aligned for the benefit of the Falklands. Among several of the positive issues, squid has returned and the catches have been very encouraging, among the best in several decades. The last tourism season showed that cruise ships are still interested in visiting the Islands, almost at pre-pandemic levels, and the prospects are that the trend will increase. The hydrocarbon potential development project seems well underway and international prices and needs are auspicious, and the Israeli company Navitas is organizing, and hiring, to begin operating in 2025.In the budget there are a whole series of capital investments for which there are allocated funds, and although some are delayed, it is due to a lack of sufficient specialties and manpower. And perhaps the most important work, the new port, seems to have finally been underway, laboriously, after many internal discussions, but the consensus on the need for a port as part of the development of the Islands is the majority opinion, and it has been appealed that the expenditures of that investment are channeled to the United Kingdom. It should be noted that in general the budgets of the Islands, completely self-generated, are always calculated with surpluses, accompanied by minimal inflation, almost non-existent unemployment and abundant investments in the fishing industry.Political relations with Argentina have not improved, but they have not worsened either.Of course this does not mean that the rite of sovereign claim and delivery of the Islands must be fulfilled (even if it is long term) but it is recognized for the first time that the Islanders, the kelpers, have the right to decide on their future, to be consulted, and that the invasion and war of 1982 was lost. Finally, even in the case of Labor's victory in the British elections on July 4, everything indicates that this will be the case; the contacts and international policy carried out by the Falklands themselves ensure a very well-oiled relationship supported by all sectors with representation. in the Westminster Parliament. Not to mention the military corporation and its three weapons, stationed at the Mount Pleasant Complex, with a permanent training field.
