Falklands fully dedicated to prioritizing the development of the oil industry Thursday, March 21, 2024 - 14:47 UTC ? ? The Legislative Assembly and government of the Falklands will focus in the coming months on addressing the issue of oil development in the Islands. ? Chancellor Cameron gave full support to the development of the oil industry in the Falklands and also made suggestions regarding funding. The Falkland Islands government has announced that following a meeting to prioritize issues on the Islands' agenda it had been decided that for the coming months the focus would be on the development of the oil industry, in particular the preparation program for The anticipated start of its execution could begin next year, according to several notices published by the oil company Navitas. The decision on a prioritization stage was the result of discussions between the elected Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly, in effect the Falklands Home Rule Government and various departments of the Falklands Government, which may mean, 'inevitably, that other pending matters will have to wait,' according to the statement. Although the decision to prioritize the development of the oil industry would not have to impact the frontline services provided by the government, "it could affect some areas of development of certain policies and/or legislative activity." Assembly legislators understand that the priority should be the development of the Sea Lion hydrocarbon project and the development of telecommunications. In terms of priorities in the chapter of the capital investment program, the issue of the Port and the Electricity Supply Plant remain with higher priority, although other projects will not be ignored, especially those that need replacement or improvement for reasons of obsolescence and/or or expiration. But according to the official statement, as a result of the decision to prioritize, government offices must be more centralized in support of the announced areas and projects, to the detriment of others.

Concomitantly the Legislative Assembly and the government of the Islands will have to concentrate on obtaining the necessary funds to support the full range of preparations. It was originally planned to issue Falklands bonds, backed by the British Treasury. However, since London is committed to the meetings organized by the United Nations regarding climate change and the commitment to green and renewable energies, and its transition stage, it denied such support. However, during the recent visit of the Chancellor, Foreign Secretary David Cameron to the Islands, the topic was discussed at length, to begin with London's full support for the development of the oil industry in the Falklands, and apparently suggestions of some other financial mechanism in support of the issuance of bonds to continue preparations for the start of oil development. Much work ahead.

Meanwhile, the Israeli oil company Navitas, which together with Rockhopper Exploration is in the midst of preparing for the assembly of the workshop and related facilities to begin developing the Sea Lion offshore project in the northern Falklands, appealing as much as possible and under the conditions of quality and international standards to local suppliers of the Islands, comes from calling a tender to have a complete and busy heliport with facilities at the airport in the capital Stanley to serve about a hundred people. In addition to the necessary facilities such as changing rooms, showers, catering rooms and parking for about 36 vehicles plus several mini buses.
